The PDC21 works great. I use it to interface between my mp3 player (or CD player or PC) and venues that have XLR microphone jacks. While a straight 1/8" to XLR cable often works, sometimes these XLR jacks have +50vdc on them which as blown a previous mp3 player. The PDC21 removes this voltage and removes 60Hz hum that can come about with a direct wire connection.

This box works excellent - even for the low price.
I have used it in Concerts to connect Acoustic-Electric Guitars to the PA.
I have also used it (in conjunction with 1/4" to RCA adapters) to interface between a DVD player and the PA system where a ground lift was required.
I've also used it in reverse to connect the PA system to a camcorder so the camcorder got its sound directly for the system.
Use a coupler to convert the Male XLR to Female, connect the line level PA output to it. Then use a stereo RCA to 3.5mm mini plug to connect to the Camcorder mic input.

When I bought this direct box the price was only $8! It's since gone up to $11, but that's still a phenomenal value for a decent piece of gear. I've been using two of these to turn a 1/4" unbalanced (guitar) signal into a balanced (XLR) signal in order to run the cable about 50 feet without introducing noise into the signal path, and it works like a champ. The box doesn't color the sound much at all.
I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to pick up a decent D.I. at a phenomenal price.
