 "Tascam DR-07" 2010-02-10

Really can't speak to the product itself, but the ads and other pr were misleading...thinking it had a speaker so I could enjoy instant playback...NOT!!! Also, in sending it back to the vendor, there was a $30.00 "restocking" fee and $10 postage/insurance to send it back. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

"just what i was looking for !" 2010-02-08

it's easy to use, great quality recording. i can download easily into i-tunes and email mp3 files etc....the only thing is it goes thru batteries quickly so i purchased rechargeable batteries and a 40.00 charger, but still worth it.

A handy device for impromptu recording. The recordings are very good and one can pick either WAV or MP3. I have other Tascam products and find that they are rugged, reliable and have a reasonable price. Out of all the other portable recorders I looked at this one was the best.

For the price, I think that it is the best deal on the market. Free super savers shipping is a great incentive.

 "DR07 is a keeper" 2010-01-27

Purchased today. Guitar Center matched the B&H price of $140, but would not match the Amazon price, which was actually a few dollars higher. Take a printout of the B&H page with you. Guitar Center is good about returns.

I plugged in a Rode M3 using the appropriate adapters.

I've tested all mike sensitivity levels and have not heard any clicking that was mentioned on Amazon.

The peak levels on the DR07 display match the peak levels I see in Audacity, so I can be confident about what I see in the field.

I did not find it hard to set the record level, as someone mentioned. You may see the peak jump around a little- -9, -11, -10, but that probably reflects the signal you are putting in.

The amps for the headphones can be noisy at high levels but are OK at mid levels.

The recording itself is quiet- even at the high mike input level I can't really say I heard any hiss.

I looked at my recordings using the spectrum display in Audacity and even at high mike input with a setting of 6 on the record level it was clean above about 3500 hz. The least amount of noise removal in Audacity took care of most of that.

I asked Tascam about the clicking sounds others reported and they said: "The clicking they are complaining about probably is from overloading while recording, you can actually avoid that by turning on the limiter or just turn down the input signal."
