 "Fantastically Frustrated!!!!!" 2010-09-30
By Luis Vazquez (Stamford, CT United States)
Firstly I must say that this is the best portable practice unit I've ever owned. I can take the SD card and create my own folders of music that I wish to practice to. Be sure that the samples of music be it MP3 or WAV are at least 128 bit or they will fail to play.

Every thing from the drum patterns & effects to altering the playback and record functions are awesome BUT! and it's a BIG BUTT.

The 1/4 jack for the instrument however gentle I have been with insertion & withdrawl this connection gets short circuited rendering it completely useless to me. The first time I sent it back out-of-warranty Tascam did fix it for me no charge but shipping. Then it happened the second time. This is apparently a HUGE FLAW in the sodering circuit. This is the very part that gets the most physical use but they didn't make it dependable, even under the most gentle of usage, and believe me I baby my gear as I wish to enjoy its use for a long time. I'd like to get another one BUT I've lost confidence in its performance reliability. If I can't plug in it's no more than a mp3 player and I have a few already. Time to shop around again.

been playing guitar off and on for 15 years and would say it good device to learn basic structure of any song you need, and allows taking pop songs, rap songs laying guitar solos or riffs over them. Good jam device. Love the overdub feature can take mp3 songs and play around them and jam, and if you really want to learn basics of a song it can slow a song down to 1/2 speed, and repeat.

By robotboy (manila)
Now don't get me wrong - I do like this - very handy for laying down song ideas and the multi-tracking - although not separate is good. BUT and I hope Tascam take note of this - the rhythm tracks are very limited. There are only about 6 of the pre-programmed beats that are useable - the rest are silly and not very well thought out. Tascam need to seriously revise the beats in this....or better still, make a model where you can programme your own beats.

 "Not the Correct Item" 2010-04-19
By Jerome Carolfi (San Francisco, CA USA)
Beware of ordering from Amazon partner vendors. You might be better off going to them directly. When I ordered the power adapter, it was not clear in the Amazon listing which was the correct model number for the digital recorder I also purchased. When I discovered the mismatch upon receiving the merchandise, I had to return the adapter to the 3rd party vendor, and I was not refunded the full purchase amount. :(

"Improperly matched with Tascam CD-VT2" 2009-02-05
By J. Paulson
Amazon links this item with the Tascam CD-VT2 as an appropriate power source. Unfortunately it is a 9-volt adapter and the Tascam requires 5-volt. I contacted the Tascam Service Center and they warned me not to use this power supply as it could cause damage to the Tascam unit over time.

"The power adapter is good - the equipment isn't" 2005-01-16
By Lauren sings the blues (Lapeer, MI)
I bought this power source to be used with the Tascam CD-VT1 vocal trainer. This adapter works fine, but the vocal trainer didn't remove vocals as promised nor did it change tempo or key of the song (on a CD) without seriously warping the sound. If that is the purpose for buying this power source, don't even bother. I understand from other reviews that the guitar trainer is pretty good, though.

 "TASCAM MP-BT1 Review" 2010-05-04
By J. Vandergrift (Bellevue, WA, USA)
This works pretty well, all in all. As other reviewers have mentioned, it works really well as a headphone amp, but it does quite a bit more.

I use this a lot for practice at home without the rest of the band so I can prepare for performing (all non-professional) and just playing with my band.

Features that are really good:

*Recording the music I want to use

*Being able to change keys and tempos to adapt to those used by my band

*having a built-in tuner

Features that need to be improved:

*It only accepts MP3 recordings in a specific format and sample rate. I use iTunes, and it would be really great for this device to accept other formats. However, I also realize that this is likely necessary for the features of being able to change key and tempo at this level of technology. This can be accomplished with an on-line format converter, but not all music can be converted--and it's an extra few steps. (DRM makes this a challenge!)

*The format for making playlists is more complex than it should be; it can only be done on the device itself. An improvement would be for TASCAM to write a software update to allow making playlists from the computer connection.

There are a lot of special effects that the TASCAM MP-BT1 offers, but these are probably better applied at the level of the input; you can't really move these same effects to a performance. (It's tough to use this as a stomp box!)

I also purchased the Tascam PSP520 Power Supply For Mpgt1 power source at the same time as this device. It works well. For re-charging, it's also possible to use a standard 5-volt USB power source (as many cell phones use), or to simply re-charge the batteries from the USB port on your computer. However, it isn't bad to have the proper device that re-charges more quickly, and for only $25, it's not bad to have the proper device. Since this is not bundled with the MP-BT1, you have choices.

Other than the issues mentioned above, I'd buy this again in a heartbeat!

 "Tascam BT-1 Bass Trainer" 2009-12-08
By George G. Abbott (Richardson, TX)
I got the BT-1 as a Christmas gift from my wife in 2008. From day one the thing never held a decent charge lasting less than 40 minutes at best even after being plugged into a charge all night long. It's very picky about the sampeling rate of the .mp3 songs you try to load, fails when you least expect it and playback for songs with a pitch change is really bad. The battery finally failed to hold any charge and would not even turn. Tascam wanted $60 for a simple replacement battery I could change myself. Pretty steep for a battery they knew was bad all along. If you buy one of these you better have them throw in an replacement battery up front or you'll be holding a worthless piece of junk.

This thing is awesome! You store your songs on it, no burning cds. You can change the speed without changing the pitch. You can change the key without changing the speed, or any combination of the above. It has a tuner on board. Plus you can loop a section in a song and it saves the loop! The guys in my band love Rush and this thing has been a lifesaver!!! I would suggest an excellent pair of computer speakers or studio monitors.

"Barely plays faster than normal" 2009-02-18
By Fair review (san francisco)
Bought this item mainly to listen to music/spoken word faster than normal. The variable speed is not very variable if you want to go faster. It only will go 16% faster. For me it was a big waste of money. On any computer you can buy a program (the amazing slow downer for example) that will cost a fraction of the cost and play 300% faster, not 16%. It will go 50% slower, so if you just want to go slow it might be ok. Also it eats 4 double a batteries like they were popcorn, and the charger that was sent as recommend was the wrong voltage. It needs a 5v adapter. The quality of the sound is decent.

Compact and easy to use with outstanding features. Match with a Tascam PSP520 power supply (don't be enticed by the lower priced adapter as it does not match the voltage requirements of this unit) and a couple of inexpensive, powered speakers and you've got the perfect instrument trainer. Carve out that 18 second instrumental in the middle of a CD recording, slow it down, and loop it endlessly and you'll finally figure out that solo that's eluded you for so long. Fun and functional.

"This Is Great For What It Was Made For" 2008-08-19
By monkuboy (Temple City, CA United States)
Not everyone has a need for this but if you do, it works very well. It plays a CD well enough although if that's all you need then don't buy this. What it does well is it can either speed or slow the tempo of what is on the CD without changing the pitch, or it can change the pitch of what is on the CD without changing the tempo. It also acts as a tuner. And, it can remove center channel vocals if you want to just hear the music portion of what is on the CD.

Regarding the tempo and pitch change, it executes these tasks flawlessly.

Regarding the vocal elimination, it removes the vocals satisfactorily. I don't think any machine can do a perfect job because there's too many hitches inherent in the recording, but this one does a good enough job so that the vocals are faint enough for someone to sing over and not compete with them.

Build quality is good - it is part of the Teac company and they make quality stuff. I bought a separate power transformer for this unit so I didn't have to worry about batteries, so I have no comments regarding how long the batteries last.

The controls and functions are neatly laid out on the panel and are easy to use. The instruction book is easy to follow. This product does what I bought it for very well so I am happy with it.

We are small church that was still using cassette recording for our services and weren't sure how we would like making the change to CD recording, but the Tascam recorder made the transition easy and painless.  "Really Nice Rock Solid" 2009-04-07
By JC (MD USA)
Just got it and love it. This is an extremely sturdy unit, built to last. Buttons, panels, inputs, slot loading: everything about it is durable.

Function seems to be great as well. The keyboard input and remote are great features and (as professional gear) it is free from SCMS (and of course the "Music CD"). The gain controls (record level setting) are essential for proper transfers from analog material and seem to be very sturdy as well. Separate knobs for each channel is a thoughtful approach and they have a nice feel. Input controls are typically the achilles heel of any recording equipment (eventually the rheostats get dirty and start making noise on the source when you move them, though we may be beyond that nowadays), so we'll see about that in a few years. I do hope they are as well made as the rest of it.

This is pro quality equipment and would be equally at home in a studio rack or in a high end system. It has 24 bit converters and the quality and ease of recording is great. While it will even play MP3's (though not sure why one would need it to), it has pitch control and will also do direct digital dubs.

Of course we can also put it in the rack in the home studio, but the bottom line for a lot of what I expect to be doing with it: If you want a CD recorder to make lossless transfers from legacy analog sources (cassettes, LP's, etc.) this is the equipment to get. It's worth paying a bit more than the pro-sumer products (and it's really not that much more here). I have Sony pro-sumer stuff in my stereo system and this machine is WAY more solid than any of that. Even the patch panel for inputs (in the back) is rock solid (far better than any home or pro-sumer equipment and even than most of the "pro" gear I've seen). Some other brand may some esoteric specs that are a little better or a reputation, but if it breaks down all the time it's not functional and if it costs twice as much (at this price point) you'd really have to find some feature you absolutely had to have that this one doesn't to make that worthwhile. They do make a model a step up from this that adds a few features, but I didn't really think it was anything I couldn't live without. This machine does cost twice as much as the bottom of the line consumer recorders but what they packed into it is more than worth that (much smaller) difference.

 "Great Recorder....Great Seller!!!!" 2008-11-12
By Gerard Masters (Soggy Seattle, Wa)
What a difference 1/2 price makes!! I bought the HHB Dual Disc Burner for over a Grand ($) and although it looks tight, the cd trays immediately turned me off, very very flimsy. Not a good first impression on a 'Professional' CD Recorder that lists for over $1000.

So I took a chance and popped for this Tascam and quite the opposite reaction, out of the box I was impressed with the look and feel of this unit. The buttons have a 'positive' feel to them unlike the HHB whose buttons felt loose and sloppy. And the Digital 'Syncro' start worked perfectly unlike the HHB DualBurn which for the life of me, could NOT get it to start recording when I started the Digital 'Source' master. So there you go, great features, not lacking any at all, heck even more than the hhb (Pitch control for one) and at less then half the price I paid....I love Amazon.com and the retailer I got this from......

The Tascam 900SL is a great professional CD recorder for your studio. I was forced to buy this unit after my Alesis Master Link Hi resolution mastering CD recorder broke down... again .... altho the Tascam doesn't have all the features of a mastering CD recorder it does a great job of capturing my recording effortlessly. two major qualities I like in the 900SL are the ability to use a pc keyboard to access all the functions of the 900SL. you never really have to touch the unit itself. the other is the Slot Loading of the disc. its about time someone implemented this great idea into a unit. you never have to worry about breaking the CD tray again. its a great looking unit. I just don't care for the illumination color or clarity of the face. the bright gold color matches nothing in my studio and its kind of blurry because they use a cheap plastic cover instead of glass. which would make this unit look way more professional instead of looking like a home stereo unit. for the price you would think Tascam would use all aluminum and glass to enhance the new 900SL. above all that its a great recorder and does its job with ease.I give the 900SL a 7 out of 10 for looks and a 8 for functionality. ill be moving the 900SL to the home stereo rack after the Masterlink is repaired. there really isn't a unit out than can stand up to the Masterlink recorders features and flexibility. get it together Tascam!

$41 for a rinky-dink tripod you can buy for $5 and a piece of foam? By the way, foam makes a poor windscreen; if you're serious about wind noise you need a furry-type covering (on my other mics I use products made by Windjammer).

I have to confess I don't have the Tascam device listed--I have the slightly smaller DR-07, which works beautifully, is 2/3 the price, and which has a built-in mic mount on the bottom.

If the listed Tascam unit needs the adapter to get a mic mount, then perhaps that explains part of the $41 price, but I if so I find the lack of a mic mount to then be a gross oversight.

 "Tascam DR1" 2009-11-24

This is a great small package recorder for live rehearsals or performances. Also has the ability to take a feed from a mixer to get studio quality digital recording. The live recording is simple to use, and using a good sound editor (like NCH WavePad)turns out pretty good audio. It is very sensitive.

 "The Curate's Egg" 2009-02-21

Some parts are excellent. The bracket (a.k.a "tripod adaptor") that snaps onto the DR1 is high-quality and well-designed. The DR1 snaps securely into it, and it allows complete access to all controls and connectors. The microphone-stand adaptor is likewise well-built and secure.

It is the tripod itself that is questionable. While it is of reasonable quality, the flexible legs are a too stiff. This works well enough to hold the DR1 above a horizontal surface, but that's about it. The tripod's function would be better fulfilled with a Gorillapod Joby GP1-A1EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod (Grey), a similarly-sized device with much more adaptable legs.

The windscreen is a piece of foam, sized and shaped to fit over the microphone end of the DR1. It works, but how could it not? Anyone could build one with foam and some tape.

I've used the bracket with a full-sized camera tripod, and on a mic stand with the mic-stand adaptor. I have used the tripod with a small camera, but not with the DR1. I have not yet needed the windscreen.

All together, this is a functional set of accessories. The one necessary component is the bracket; the others (tripod, mic-stand adaptor, and windscreen) can be purchased from other places or easily macguyvered; they merely help justify the price.

The list price ($75) is not justifiable, and only serves to make the "real" price seem reasonable. The (current) "real" price (about $50) is still too high, but how else can one acquire the bracket?

 "Essential for your DR1." 2009-01-29
By James Gruszynski (Margate, FL United States)
My only complaint is that these accessories are so essential they really should come with the Tascam DR1 recorder! I am a amateur musician and I use my DR1 to record performances and jam sessions. These accessories provide you the ability to mount the recorder on a tripod or mic stand so that you can position it directly in front of the singers and instruments so you can record the best sound. I found it nearly impossible to get quality recordings from the DR1 without this kit.
