With TASCAM's GT-R1, you can plug in and record anywhere. It combines a portable recorder with an instrument trainer for the ultimate songwriter's toolkit. Record using the built-in stereo condenser microphones, or plug in your guitar or bass to record using the amp simulator, reverb and multi-effects. The GT-R1's built-in rhythm machine sets the groove when beginning your song, and the overdub mode allows you to build a song step-by-step.
TASCAM's GT-R1 records in MP3 or WAV format, 16-bit or 24-bit. A generous 1GB SD card is included to get you started, and the USB 2.0 jack charges the recorder and copies your recordings to your PC or Mac. There's a low cut filter and analog limiter to keep levels under control, whether you're improvising in the studio or recording rehearsals or concerts.
There's no better tool for learning new songs and solos than TASCAM's instrument trainers. Load MP3 files into the GT-R1 and plug in to play along. Loop a section of a solo with two button presses, then slow it down without changing the pitch. You can even switch on a Guitar or Bass canceller to play along with the original rhythm section. The GT-R1 also includes a chromatic tuner and metronome for practice and warmup.
Don't go anywhere without your guitar and your new songwriting partner, the GT-R1.

Firstly I must say that this is the best portable practice unit I've ever owned. I can take the SD card and create my own folders of music that I wish to practice to. Be sure that the samples of music be it MP3 or WAV are at least 128 bit or they will fail to play.
Every thing from the drum patterns & effects to altering the playback and record functions are awesome BUT! and it's a BIG BUTT.
The 1/4 jack for the instrument however gentle I have been with insertion & withdrawl this connection gets short circuited rendering it completely useless to me. The first time I sent it back out-of-warranty Tascam did fix it for me no charge but shipping. Then it happened the second time. This is apparently a HUGE FLAW in the sodering circuit. This is the very part that gets the most physical use but they didn't make it dependable, even under the most gentle of usage, and believe me I baby my gear as I wish to enjoy its use for a long time. I'd like to get another one BUT I've lost confidence in its performance reliability. If I can't plug in it's no more than a mp3 player and I have a few already. Time to shop around again.

Amazing tool! I owned the recorder and the guitar trainer, and this thing does all of that and more.

been playing guitar off and on for 15 years and would say it good device to learn basic structure of any song you need, and allows taking pop songs, rap songs laying guitar solos or riffs over them. Good jam device. Love the overdub feature can take mp3 songs and play around them and jam, and if you really want to learn basics of a song it can slow a song down to 1/2 speed, and repeat.

Great tool for working out leads. Very easy to use and fun to travel with.

Now don't get me wrong - I do like this - very handy for laying down song ideas and the multi-tracking - although not separate is good. BUT and I hope Tascam take note of this - the rhythm tracks are very limited. There are only about 6 of the pre-programmed beats that are useable - the rest are silly and not very well thought out. Tascam need to seriously revise the beats in this....or better still, make a model where you can programme your own beats.
