The BBE® MaxCom™ is a highly sophisticated Dual-Channel Compressor and Limiter with Gate, housed in a compact and easy-to-use package. It provides a live or recorded mix with all the clean, clear punch that only a truly professional dynamics controller can. However, the MaxCom is much more than a high-quality, superbly engineered compressor/limiter. The MaxCom is the first signal processor of its kind to feature an on-board BBE Sonic Maximizer. The BBE High Definition Sound process employed by the Sonic Maximizer is world renown among music and sound professionals for remarkable improvements in total sound quality, bringing crystalline clarity and air to the source material as well as revealing rich harmonic subtleties. The MaxCom employs BBE's latest High Definition Sound technology, in the very same 4th Generation BBE Professional chipset which powers the 482i and 882i Sonic Maximizers. This single-rack-space dynamics processor includes two independent full-featured compressor/limiters, each channel having independent controls for Threshold, Compression Ratio, Attack Time and Release Time. Additionally, the MaxCom’s “linking” function allows for phase-coherent tracking of stereo signals and adjustment from the Channel One controls. Comprehensive metering is achieved via dual bar-graph meters on each channel that indicate Input Level and Gain Reduction. MaxCom’s intuitive design makes it easy to operate, and its rigorous engineering and robust construction assure clean, distortion free audio and a predictable, repeatable range of control from undetectable to clearly identifiable. Whether the goal is to pull a “lost” instrument up in the mix, control vocal levels or dial in hard-limited speaker protection, the MaxCom can accomplish the task with ease, reliability and sonic excellence. By offering a superb, full-featured compressor/limiter with an integrated BBE Sonic Maximizer system, the MaxCom has no equal at any price.

"4 PIECES OF GEAR IN ONE" 2010-10-28
By Bradley Sherrer (Cypress, Texas United States)
Goodness GOD... I can't say enough about this thing. Compressor/Limiter/Gate and a Maximizer. In less space than a Rack Amp.

If you trim this thing out just right for microphones, you can scream at the top of your lungs into the mic and get clear vocals on the other side. I bought this unit to help out with my in home studio and its uses are limitless. At that point I wasn't sure whether it would be useful to me, I was pretty "FNG" to buying these little trinkets. Since buying my last load of equipment in FEB, I have used this while I was running sound for a Pop/Alt Rock/Groove band. Unfortunatley, the gig wasn't long lasting enough, but they were impressed not only with how hard I work, but at how well I managed the sound.

I would recommend this to any person looking for its capabilities. It was and always will be worth every dime I paid for it. It's a no risk deal, you can't go wrong. Im purchasing 5 more in the future to help with drum mics, LOL.

"What a great piece of Gear..." 2010-04-22
By Suborasarus (Oregon)
Several decades ago I bought and used a BBE unit in my home studio. I had several people hear my recordings and state my sounds were the best home recordings they had ever heard (in terms of quality and not composition). I attributed the high quality to the BBE. Recently I decided to build another home recording studio, this time all digital, and start writing and producing music again. I had to have a Maxcom in the chain to make the studio complete. BBE has done a fabulous job with this unit. One might reason that combining all the features into one box would compromise the quality. They would be wrong... If you are into making music, you need this unit. You will be amazed by the sound. Like most things very useful, after using it on your first composition, you won't want to be without it...

I highly recommend it...

"why wouldnt you have one of these" 2010-01-17
By F. Rush
Love this thing. BBE and compressor all in a single rack space. They could charge double for this thing and it would be worth it. If you have never used a BBE before then you don't know what you are missing. It is really that good.

I do mobile sound and DJ work and wouldn't be with out it.

I use to use a separate BBE and Yamaha compressor but this helps to save space and cuts down on cables and pieces in the audio chain.

Would buy another in a heart beat.

 "Nice features, nice price" 2007-03-01
By C. Batte (Houston)
I've had my MaxCom for a couples weeks now, and it has performed just as I expected. BBE has many great products and this compressor/exciter is one of my favorites. The built in Sonic Maximizer, a device that BBE is well known for, is a nice addition to the 2-channel compressor. Having the Maximizer built in frees up a space in your rack because you won't have to buy two seperate units (the Maximizer and a compressor). If you know how a compressor works and what a Sonic Maximizer is, you should have no problem tweaking the settings to where you like them. Currently I have it in my bass rig and I will eventually use it for recording. Check it out, this is a great buy!

The BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer delivers the sound-improving benefits of a Discreet Stereo BBE SONIC MAXIMIZER™ signal processor with the convenience of ganged controls With the patented BBE Process, music has a great "live presence". Unlike some "exciter" devices which add artificial harmonics to the signal, BBE adds nothing artificial but instead restructures it to faithfully allow all the detail and nuance to be heard. Highs frequencies are clear, naturally brilliant and finely detailed. Lows are tight, well defined and harmonically rich. Electric and acoustic guitars have sparkle, clarity and definition. BBE brings out the harmonic complexity so each note of a chord becomes more distinct. Electric & acoustic basses take on a rich, earthy "CD" sound. BBE yields extremely tight, punchy bottom end without sacrificing the presence, clarity and bite on the top end. Vocals cut through the amplified instruments so you’re no longer "buried in the mix". Sound contractors know that vocal intelligibility is paramount to a successful PA installation and client satisfaction. No other audio processor brings natural clarity and crisp definition to the spoken word like BBE does. That's why BBE Sonic Maximizer processors can be found installed in PA systems ranging from the massive network in New York's JFK airport to the thousands of houses of worship around the world. Recording studios use BBE on individual tracks, mixdown, and of course in mastering. Mixes with BBE are fresh and sparkly, restoring instrument clarity and vocal intelligibility without appreciably adding level. BBE improves effect processing by expanding the spatial dimension of stereo reverb and chorus. Whether in an individual instrument rack or across a full mix, BBE makes a dramatic improvement in the quality of effects and neutralizes their tendency to muffle instrument and vocal characteristics.

"It does what it says" 2010-03-30
By The Barrister (Mary Land)
I own it. I've used this model on electric and acoustic guitars, and on vocals. Taking all the tech-speak out of it, the only way to really describe what this does is to say that it adds "sparkle" to the sound. This doesn't replace proper EQ - you still need to roll off some mids and take the boom out of the low end on an acoustic, for example - but it does help instruments and vocals cut through. It restores clarity to vocals and helps guitars "ring" with good harmonics without adding any other off-flavors (like chorusing or flanging). I currently use this in an effects loop on a Mackie mixing board to add depth and sparkle to the main mix in live settings (five-piece rock band, instruments miced or line in). I also use it for live solo acoustic work on both the guitar and vocals, and in recordings (direct in and mixdown). It is the best $100 you'll ever drop on a piece of musical equipment.

"PRICELESS ANALOG TO DIGITAL CONVERSION TOOL" 2007-11-21
By Robert Szekely
I've been using one of these in an equipment rack at home that I use to convert old analog source material: open-reel, 8 track, cassette and records. For those of you under 30, yes, that's what we called vinyl back in the days before consumer digital audio was available: there were two main categories - LPs: 12" 33-1/3 RPM, and singles: 7" 45 RPM. Plus, our parents even had old 10" 78 RPM shellac records in MONO (that's MONAURAL, not MONONUCLEOSIS)!

I use this setup to archive and preserve mostly rare, hard to find, or out of print material on record or tape before the medium they're on degenerates to the point where the signal can no longer be preserved with any quality.

Anyway, I use this along with a compressor/noisegate set as a limiter, and a graphic EQ set to restore lost frequencies and boost amplitude to max before distortion, to dub first to MD (minidisc). After the minidisc dub, I create track breaks, and the opticially dub to CD, after which I load the CD into my computer and rip the tracks to 192K MP3s.

It's amazing the quality I can obtain from an old well-preserved cassette or record with this in the signal chain. It really does make old songs sound new again. I have dubbed several recordings from well-preserved cassettes and albums, that other than the presence of slight surface/media noise, actually sound better than some of the hasty CD re-releases of old records that have found their way to market.

 "Improve your sound!" 2010-02-13
By J. Duque
The Sonic Maximizer is a top quality piece of equipment, that will improve your sound considerably.

First let me start with some wise advice, try to connect the device without any other "sound enhancer" between the sound source and the amp. Trust me, this is the only thing you will need, ever. Of course, if you have some EQ working to eliminate unwanted room frequencies, that's fine, otherwise it would be overkill.

You definitely have to hear it to believe it.

 "Excellent piece of gear!" 2010-02-11
By T. OBrien (Alabama, USA)
I use one of these in my bass guitar rack, and it does exactly what I was looking for! I get a really focused sound, and it seems to reinforce the things about my tone that I like. It's like a "more good" processor, if that makes any sense. Definitely a good tool for the sonic arsenal. Well built, should last a long time. BBE makes good stuff.

"BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer: WOW!!" 2009-07-26
By Entropy (TX)
Wow! What a difference; it really cleaned up my stereo.

I thought I had a pretty decent stereo (Martin Logan Quests, Adcom 565's, Oracle Delphi turntable, Cambridge CD...) but the Sonic Maximizer made a very big improvement. If you get one, please don't judge it until you've put 40 hours or more on it. It definitely makes a difference out of the box, but improves a lot when broken in a while. I listened for a couple hours but then had the CD player and preamp feeding it for several days solid. Then I listened again and it sounded a lot better. I continued to burn it in for about a week - what an improvement.

 "Only $60 ????" 2010-03-14
By T. N. (Seattle, WA United States)
Ok, seriously, I'm going to buy like as many of these pedals as Amazon has for $60 each. Then I'm going to turn both knobs all the way clockwise and turn the switch on and put it inside a slightly larger metal black box, on which I'm going to stencil 'God-like Tone Sculptor', and in smaller letters, 'warning: tone may melt faces and crush skulls instantaneously'. The box will have no controls of any kind, just an input and an output. Then I'm going to sell these at boutique music stores for $300 each.*

Only $60 to instantly sound this good? I would certainly pay $300 for this box. BBE is crazy to sell it at this low price!! HURRY AND BUY ONE OF THESE AT THIS PRICE BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T BUY IT RIGHT NOW YOU'LL HAVE TO BUY MY 'GOD-LIKE TONE SCULPTOR' FOR $300 TO SOUND THIS GOOD!

*legal told me to say that this is just a joke.

"Awesome tool for any guitarist" 2010-03-03
By Rexomus (Chicago)
This pedal essentialy balances out the high, mid, and low frequencies yout instrument produces. I also have the software version of this effect on my DAW. This pedal does a great job of giving your instrument a more balanced and full tone. When I switch it on it allmost sounds like someone took a blanket off my amplifier. I highly recomend this pedal for and and all musicians.

By R. MORRIS (Decatur,il USA)
the sound coming from my speakers is so much cleaner and crisp. It's like pushing your bass boost button on your stereo on and off, that's the difference the sonic maximizer makes. Also the highs are so clean and crisp. Love it.

"Great pedal at the end of your FX chain" 2009-09-17
By Mark Showalter (Gainesville, Florida United States)
This is a great pedal to put at the end of your FX chain. I have it as the last on my pedalboard before my GNX4. It's always on & it only took me about a week to settle on how I liked it adjusted. There are only two knobs & I just played around with them untill I was happy with the sound. I do a lot of recording & I also checked the sound after recording. Can't reccomend it enough especially considering the price.
