"best for karaoke by a long shot!!!" 2010-02-22
By Bc5k (lexington, ky 40517)
Where should I start with this board? Hmm how about at the beginning?

Purpose: Home Karaoke System

Setup:

This Mixing Board

Pyle 4 channel wireless mics

Computer Karaoke System (custom)

40" samsung lcd TV

Denon 110wX5 receiver

Infinity towers, center, quadrapole surrounds, kenwood servo sub

Ok now you see what I use it for, so let me just say that this board is the best bang for the buck you are going to get. The built in effects are actually pretty decent. Especially for a low rent home karaoke setup such as mine. The EQ's are actually quite good and useful. The sliders have a nice feel akin to a mackie board. It has plenty of buses just in case you need them. The USB was a bit disappointing but I think I was expecting too much. The USB goes in the tape monitor loop and outputs the boards mix to your pc. Overall the interface was noiseless; but I had envisioned multi tracks out... OK that is not fair to ask of a sub 200 dollar 12 input mixer. I will tell you the mic preamps are spot on and that Every thing is good and quiet here. Good board for the price... You will not be disappointed.

 "It's OK" 2009-06-19
By A. Castillo (Arizona)
My first mixer was (is) a fantastic Berhinger XENYX 802 mixer that still works great. I wanted a couple more preamped inputs, some built in effects and a USB connection, all of which were included on this model, so I was sold, naturally. I thought I was going to replace my audio interface with this bad boy! I was really excited to get this mixer for this price. And therein lies my rookie mistake. Well the USB is not an ON BOARD USB. It is a separate device. You have to plug it in using RCA cables from the mixer to the box (It's called the Berhinger UCA200) then to your computer via USB.

This was very disappointing and inconvenient. I'm not even sure it's a USB 2.0 (It doesn't say anywhere!) as it is very slow on my computer anyway. Had I known that I would have second guessed this purchase. It's just another box to create noise and take away power. I looked through the manual for some other options but it was useless. Half of the manual consisted of plugging the product I just bought which makes no sense to me.

As a live mixer it's pretty damn good, and that's its saving grace, which is why I gave it 3 stars. But for home recording, this USB thing is a big disappointment. Noisy and a bit confusing. The FX are OK. I thought all the room, hall and plated reverbs sounded terrible though. Everything else was pretty good. Had lots of fun with the Reverse and Ambience FX. The MUTE buttons were also the 3/4 BUS buttons (which they don't call BUS but 'ALT') which was kind of confusing at first.

The outputs were great too. Two main XLR outputs and two 1/4" 'ALT' outputs as well as two 1/4" control room outs. Lots of possibilities. I salvaged this thing for myself but connecting the ctrl room outs to my audio interface. Oh well. Can't win em all. Lesson learned.

 "Versatile, quiet, and cheap!" 2008-11-28
By James R. Bjugstad (SAINT FRANCIS, WI United States)
This mixer is very versatile, with lots of inputs, phantom power, built-in eq, and great built-in effects. It is super quiet, and comes with the USB interface. I've added some Behringer mikes (both dynamic and condenser types), and have a great little digital home studio for under $400 total outlay!

 "Excellent Mixer Console!!!" 2008-05-09
By Rafael D. Cortes Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
The BEHRINGER XENYX 1204FX MIXER 12-INPUT 2/2-BUS w/EFX & USB is a GREAT console for the price! It has every feature that it advertises! Works like a champ. I've had it on since it arrived (I webcast 24/7) and it hasn't had a glitch! It has excellent sound quality and clarity.

Highly recommended from someone who has experience with various consoles and brands such as Mackie and Midas.

 "Behringer mixer" 2008-01-11
By Daniel F. Gurzynski (Buffalo, NY)
I bought this at a local "Guitar Center" store and have nothing to say but great things about it. It's small, solidly built and really delivers. The mic preamps are clean and quiet, which is what I was originally looking for. Perfect for remote recording or podcast production.

"Great Value in a Simple Mixer" 2007-08-20
By A. Seltzer (Philadelphia, PA)
I have owned this mixer for a little over 6 months and could not be more pleased. The sound quality, inclusion of two high quality phantom power inputs, and configurability make this ideal for podcasting. This mixer has a small footprint considering the number of inputs it can handle and feels like a quality piece of gear. All controls have a firm feel.

There is no analog level meter, which keeps the cost and size of the unit down. However, there is a 5 segment LED that approximates input levels and signals red on clipping. Essentially this is all that is really needed and works quite well. If you record into software, that will give more precise levels if needed.

The cost of the unit is such that for most it leaves the budget available for a decent quality condenser mike which is just as essential, if not more so, for quality audio recording.

While the larger Xenyx models do include a built-in USB interface for immediate connection to a computer, this mixer does not. However, you can pick up either a USB or Firewire interface separately and inexpensively. I use the Behringer FCA202 firewire interface which works great and is also priced for tight budgets.

The signal path, described in the user guide with a diagram, is simple yet versatile. It is possible to interface to an external effects processor and also send a separate mix for control room or tape out purposes.

Most critical, as Behringer promises, the inputs are very clean. This value oriented mixer offers everything needed for basic recording,e.g. podcasting, with quality and durability.

 "Behringer 1202FX" 2010-04-07
By Marc A. Razze (La Crescenta, CA United States)
Awesome, especially for the price. I'm using this to mic a drumset, and then plug my mp3 player into the mixer...get it all dialed in and it's a fantastic and fun way to practice if you like playing to music. You can really hear yourself well. And, without listening to music, select one of the many reverb settings and it completely changes the complexion of your sound, and turns jamming/soloing into a new experience. Worth every dollar in my opinion. And I haven't even explored the potential for recording and live playing with this thing...

 "Great lil' mixer!" 2009-11-20
By J. Jackson (Santa Cruz, Ca.)
This thing is amazing. If you are running multiple audio sources or need

a front for a DAW, this is it. Built solid, great onboard fx, warm mic pre's ...

What else do you need. It is small enough to sit on a slideout usually used for your mouse and keyboards. I love functional well made audio gear and this is it!

"Staggering sound quality, big feature shortcomings..." 2009-05-22
By wanderingtaoist (Kansas City, MO United States)
The fact that is has no power button still kinda blows my mind. Imagine if your car came with no ignition and you had to connect the battery when you wanted to drive it and disconnect it to park.

I really prefer dedicated auxiliary sends, not cd/tape RCA workarounds.

That said the audio quality for $100 is jaw dropping. It produces substantially less noise than my older but feature rich mixer. The manual stated it has "first class" effects, which I took for just some PR buzz words but I have to admit they are really good. It fools the ears and really creates a dynamic space, relative to what the reality is, which is acoustically challenging to say the least. You just need a touch of gate and compression to control it. The 3 band EQ (my old mixer had 2) is icing on the cake. And it stays relatively cool. You could fry an egg on my old mixer after a couple hours of work.

So ok I'll shut up about the lack of features since I'd likely have to put down close to another $100 to get everything I'm used to and I'm on a really tight budget. I'll take those short comings for the sound quality. And it's small. It takes up substantially less real estate, always a plus on my desktop.

 "Sweet little machine" 2008-10-27
By S. Cea (Los Angeles)
I bought this and have been using it to run a Karaoke show. Not only does it handle big ol' clunky powered speakers like a bigger mixer can, but it's portable. I bought this world tour bag made especially for the mixer and it's just so convenient. I love it. I use Audix OM2 Mics, Monster P500 XLR Cable, and this mixer. I've used it with two powered Macke towers and with a home speaker system. Man this mixer rocks!
