 "Satisfactory" 2007-12-26
By DIRTYROTTEN (Queens, New York)
I had this mixer for a few months. It was my first mixer. It does its job as an entry level mixer. I used it to practice beatmatching and mixing.

There is no fader curve adjustment, no hamster switch, nor transform switches as this is not a scratch mixer. The BPM counter does not work well, although I wouldn't recommend using those things anyway.

I would not recommend this as a first mixer unless you're getting it for free. You can save up a few more bucks and get a more featured mixer that'll last you past your first few months of DJing.

 "Great mixer for beginers" 2007-01-26
By Paul Conmackie (Germany)
Well this mixer has its low and high points. The BPM counter is complety worthless, I dont use it anyway. The great thing about this mixer is the 3rd channel! It took me a while to get used to the cue PFL function seems its a crossfader. The EQ is easy to control, and the channel seperation is pretty good. The crossfader feels loose to me. The sound sort of pops up, instead of slowly blending over which i noticed my first time using. Overall this mixer is a great bargin for any novice who wants to explore the 3rd channel arena.

 "Dreadful! Avoid!" 2006-04-10
By O. P. Story
channel one & two both went out! BAH! Useless, + the sound sinks in the middle of the crossfader....it's a real pain for someone as precise as me. Basically you cant drift into one record after the other, it just kind of pops up(you cant adjust it either).

 "High-pitched hiss through USB" 2010-10-05
By Mike Owens (Fort Worth, TX)
I bought this on a recommendation from a friend. First I noticed over at his house a high pitched hiss when we were playing around with his setup. I thought at the time maybe this was something in his computer somewhere.

Then I got mine, and lo and behold, the same problem! This hiss only occurs through the USB interface. When I ran it through an M-Audio Mobile Pre USB, no hiss. I Googled this and there are numerous reports of people having this problem. This is not an isolated incident. I don't do many Amazon reviews. I only take the time to do this one to say "buyer beware."

So if you are looking to use the USB interface, consider another product, because you are just going to have to sink another $30-$100 on an audio interface to connect to your PC. If you don't need USB, this seems like a perfectly fine mixer. It just annoys me to buy a something only to find that one of its main features is completely broken.

"Excellent recorder if you are in a band just starting out." 2010-09-28
By A. Boghosian (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I have had this recorder for about a year now, it's really great. I enjoyed recording my band, and all of my friends bands. It can connect to a bunch of different programs. I have used Adobe Audition with this, but I love using Logic on the mac with this recorder. Anyway, it's really smooth, it does a fine job recording any vocal, drum, amp, or what have you with the right mics. 5 stars

"High pitched noise and hiss with USB" 2009-11-14
By Jay S. (Troy, MI.)
It seems to work ok unless you need to put the sound through the USB. Once you do so, there's a high pitched noise and hiss that will come through on recordings. I Googled this issue, and it seems to be a common problem, especially on desktop computers. Laptops seem to have better luck. Apparently, there is a grounding issue with the USB. Aside from the high pitched noise and hiss, I couldn't get my bass to sound decent through the mixer. It sounded great on the headphones on the mixer but sounded awful after going through USB despite trying a myriad of settings. I am currently trying to return this.

"Excellent Starter Mixer - but know your limitations" 2008-02-19
By jim@mindofmen.com (Boston, MA)
We have been using one of these mixers for more than 18 months now with no problems - it is a great starter mixer at a great price. It is the mixer recommended by the authors of the Podcast Solutions book - one of the first books on podcasting.

You should keep in mind the limitations though - while you can have a number of inputs, the USB connection is going to mix everything down into a single track when it outputs. This means that you can't do post production editing on individual tracks. If you want to do this, you should look at the firewire version of this mixer.

Otherwise, it is a great starter box and has been very reliable. Highly recommended.

"Worked fine, but returned because I couldn't stand the power supply." 2010-01-26
By Brandon (Seattle, WA USA)
This mixer works, it does everything it's supposed to do.. But the real thing that ruined it for me was the power supply. It doesn't connect to the mixer securely. Really, if you bump the mixer with moderate force, or sneeze near the power supply connector, it will lose power. Then you have to wiggle the plug until you find the "sweet spot" where it will maintain power.

On occasion, I would be standing across the room from the mixer, playing, and without touching it at all, it would lose power and I would have to wiggle the plug again to get power. Very frustrating when that happened.

But, when it does get power, the mixer does exactly what it says. The channels seem to have a tiny bit of hum, but in my case I was using a mic on decently loud sources so the signal to noise ratio was negligible. I tried connecting a Shure SM58 to the mixer for bass/guitar amps and for speaking, it worked perfect. I also tried guitar and bass through line-in inputs and had no problems. I didn't get a chance to attach any condenser mics but I'm sure the phantom power would work. The whole time I recorded the sound in Audacity using a stereo RCA (phono) to 1/8 inch cable to the line-in of my computer.

The knobs don't feel like they would fall off, they're solid, and the slider for the main mix has some wiggle room, but I don't know if that's unusual. It still doesn't feel like it would fall off, though.

I would have kept this mixer if it weren't for the silly power supply issue. Super gluing the power supply to be permanently plugged in might be a solution, but I didn't want to bother. I also would have liked an on/off switch. I returned it after a few weeks because I feared that eventually the power supply would get even more and more finicky. Keep this in mind when you buy this product...

"Light, easy to use--and my third Behringer" 2008-05-27
By Sean D'souza (Auckland, New Zealand)
I've never had a problem with Behringer. And I've used it here in the US and also back home in New Zealand. This one is exceptionally good (as a model) because it's super-light, and yet you could have four mics attached at one go. I'd recommend it any day.

"Surprisingly good for the price" 2008-03-16
By Nessander
I own the Behringer Xenyx 1202FX, which is essentially this model but costs about 20 dollars more for the FX (it comes with 100 set effects). I have been doing home recording with Cubase and Logic, using a Presonus Firebox audio interface, with both MIDI, vocals and instruments, and didn't use a mixing board, but eventually decided to try one out given that (a) they are making them at very reasonable prices and (b) I had more inputs and outputs than the Firebox could easily handle.

This mixing board didn't look that impressive to me when I first checked it out, but having set it up and used it, it operates very well and cleanly. The fact that it comes with four mic inputs and preamps is a plus. The fact that it does not have an on/off switch is a minus. But basically it works well, the EQ is useful, and it has a large number of inputs and outputs for such a small mixer. Behringer makes a range of models with less/more inputs to suit one's needs, so this is great. Also, having a dedicated mixer makes it easier for me, as I can leave all my inputs connected and just adjust things on the mixer depending on what I want to record. Another small thing that is mixing is a button that cuts out the line altogether -- you have to turn it down to zero. And, there are no faders (except the main); instead it uses knobs for everything. Well, I would have liked some of these things, but then I would have to pay more, and what I really wanted was functionality at a good price, and that is what the Behringer Xenyx has delivered thus far.

By the way, I am running the following through the mixer: an AT3035 audiotechnica condenser mic, an Alesis QS8.1, guitar via line-in (or mic'd), two KRK RP5 studio monitors, Presonus Firebox. Everything's been working and sounding great thus far. Since I'm using Logic, the effects are basically unnecessary, but if I ever want to use the board for live use, which I may do, they could come in handy. I'd say the effects are just so-so.
