 "great versatile pedal" 2010-08-30
By James C. Roebuck (tucson, az)
been through a ton of reverbs and delays.... boss, eventide, reverb tanks, etc... i rely on reverb for my sound. I have read some bad reviews of this pedal and i don't understand it. this pedal rocks. I actually use the echo mode the most and was able to ditch my dd-6. it has a tap tempo, the ability to dampen the repeats to make it sound analog. also can make the repeats clear or smeared. the infinite switch is fun for holding the repeats to play over them. it is great for live performances.

it plays well with other pedals and sounds great in stereo, really great. the flerb setting provides some nice flange like modulation that is unique. i havent found the spring reverbs to be as good as a tank, but its certainly passable.

the other reverbs, room, hall, etc really sound divine. can get some nice washes and shoegaze kind of stuff, in stereo and with infinite button, watch out! tap tempo works great and is true bypass. I havent had a chance to explore the reverse echo yet. it seems a bit gimmicky, but time will tell.

i like it better than the other reverb pedals from ehx that i have tried. all in all, this pedal has allowed me to remove my delay and flanger from my pedalboard. with just a decent fuzz and this I can cover a ton of territory. I am always looking for ways to reduce my pedalboard, especially when I am on the road.

my only concerns or wishes: expression pedal input would be nice. a way to change presets without bending over.

I am also hoping it holds up to the rigors of the road, but this is always a concern with digital effects I think

overall, the cathedral really works for me. it works for me better than the dd-20, which i thought sounded a bit thin and seemed to suck tone a bit.

I feel like this pedal opens up creativity. I would suggest checking one out. as I said earlier, the thing that surprised me was how nice the echo mode sounded

"Lots of options... not a "quickie"..."infinite" button is cool." 2009-12-15
By L. Irish (Wrightsville, PA)
Tremendous reverb, lots of options and controls, actually will work as an echo unit. The Cathedral is not a simple, "set a couple of controls and go" deal, the more time you spend learning about how actual reverberatio works: pre-delay, how tone is affected in the reverberation field, etc. -- the better off you'll be, and the better you'll sound.

Has the ability to store and access pre-sets, which is truly useful (more than one would be nice, but then it would be a much more complex pedal) but probably the coolest thing for me is the "infinite" feature. I'm in a three-piece band, and when I start a song, I can set a nice lush reverb, play a chord or get some note(s) feeding back, then hold the infinite button down, and play over the "wash". It's quite an awesome sound; the wash just continues on and on and the un-reverberated guitar plays over it. Sweet. Goes back to normal reverb operation when you take your foot off the button.

I'd buy it again, but I need some time to work on it and "find" the pre-sets for different songs.Electro-Harmonix Cathedral Stereo Reverb Pedal

 "Classic 'Boss' Quality" 2010-08-31
By Mattcarson
I couldn't be happier with my recent purchase - the Boss RV-5. This compact pedal is now an essential part of my rig, as it offers a ridiculous amount of options and variability all within its durable body. This pedal gives you the ability to add a depth to the music you play, whether that be rock, blues, or ambient in sound. This device gives you the ability to control the length, volume, and tone of the reverberation type that you choose! If you're worried about durability, don't be! This pedal has an amazing feel to the thing. Boss did an amazing job in crafting this device and like I said, I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

"Essential!/Not Just for Surf Bands" 2010-07-04
By J. McHenry (Detroit, MI)
I've been looking at other people's guitar effect pedalboards, and I have to say I'm amazed how few of them bother with a stand-alone reverb pedal. The reverb on most amps is barely adequate to deliver a generic 'hall' verb, much less the tighter 'room' echo that I prefer. I got the Boss Reverb back in its RV-2 iteration twenty some years ago, and I still love it. You don't quite get hard slapback echo - you might need a delay for that - but you can get a nice 'drop shadow' bit of echo to make a guitar sound fuller. The 'hall' sound is also nice and thick. True, it does have a sort of metallic sheen to it (especially short, tight 'verbs), but you can adjust that if you like. Besides, most echoes are fake in some way or other - so what if it doesn't sound like you're in a real church, or cave, or whatever? Go buy a tube reverb for a lot more money if you need it slicker. Or record in a big metal silo - but don't be suprised if it sounds quite a bit like this pedal...

 "Great Digital Reverb" 2010-03-02
By Rexomus (Chicago)
I realy enjoy this pedal. It adds realistic sense of size and dimension to my sound. The pedal has 5 different reverbs plus one modulation effect that is nice but I mainly use the reverb function to thicken up harmonies and leads. I use Boss effects allmost exclusively because they build thier equipment to industrial strength and don't cheap out on sound or component quality. I highly recomend this pedal to any guitar player.
