This is a product that I'm sure would be great... if you could get it to work. Steinberg has so many DRM measures put into place, it sure does a great job of making sure nobody who shouldn't be using it is using it. Unfortunately, it pretty much makes it so ... nobody can use it. I bought this recently at a local music store, and after over four hours of trouble shooting, uninstalling and reinstalling, updating drivers, and going through multiple guides and trying to install it on TWO different operating systems / computers, it still did not work fully. There was always some kind of an issue. It's rather unfortunate, and especially frustrating, because from what I can tell it both could and should be an excellent product.



Unless you're ready to risk an ungodly amount of trouble shooting, anger, frustration, and possibly total lack of success in regards to using this product, I would not recommend it. I didn't want to rate it 1 Star just because I've had a miserable experience with it, because I HAVE heard good things about the software that comes with this product, Cubase, and the interface itself. But, as this whole review is to say, it means absolutely nothing when company that has an over the top, paranoid, totalitarian grasp over it's digital rights management and software distribution, making it near impossible for some people who legitimately buy their products to use, I can no where near support or recommend.



Buyer beware.

I haven't worked with it very much. It seems a little noisy. Other reviews I have read mention changing the driver settings. I haven't done any of that. It worked out of the box with very little tweaking. The Cubase 4i is somewhat daunting. There is a lot to it. In all, it seems like a good package for the money.

first, they sent me the Anagram 3, not the 6. Anyhow, check out asio4all for windows asio driver. Not sure it makes a world of diff. No probs with the Yamaha drivers, Windows vista 32bit.



Have static real bad if my laptop is plugged into 110, on battery the system is crystal clear.



Data has some skips during recording. using laptop w/ 5400 rpm sata or usb 7200 drive, both skip.



Decided to go with a Mackie 8 channel (802 VLZ3) mixer and a Tascam dp 004 recorder and bypass the computer/interface all together. The computer interface is too complicated for a two channel mix. Too much to set up and tear down for live performances.



Love the Mackie for a 1000 reasons! It's my favorite piece of equipment. Haven't got the Tascam yet, 1 more week.



Note on the Audiogram: the channel level controls are not full kill. If you have a mic plugged in and turn the level all the way down, you still get signal from the mic in your mix.



The users manual is very good.



The Cubase AI4 is rock solid, extensive activation process, updates are available.





Update on Tascam dp-004 pocket studio with which I was going to replace this yamaha recorder and my laptop, didn't like the Tascam at all, doesn't record directly to WAV (or any other usable) format and converts in real time, a two hour recording takes at least two more hours to convert. Sent it back. Looking at a Zoom H2 for the same price.

This thing works, but the devil is in the software (I am writing from a PC). While a number of different programs are included with this product none of them make it simple to record. The amp modeling software is compatible and recognizes the hardware, but isn't suitable for recording. Audacity isn't compatible out of the box and neither is the EnergyXT2. This drove me absolutely crazy. For a couple of weeks the only thing I could do was practice through headphones (which works very well). Plain and simple - I bought this to record.



I am sure there are costly software solutions out there that can recognize the USB/ASIO drivers and record via this interface but I didn't want to pay for something I thought I should get out of the box. Fortunately, after much turmoil I discovered that for the computer savvy individual there is a way. Audacity can be built to include native ASIO support! However this requires compiling your own custom (and non-distributable) build. The excellent step by step directions to do so are here: [...]



Once I got Audacity to recognize the USB/ASIO drivers I was much happier with the purchase. I still give the product 3-stars because I assume the average consumer won't want to go through the pain of custom building software to get a recording ability. To me, a out of the box recording is a basic requirement of a "Guitar-to-USB Interface".

Good software and all but if you dont have a good sound card,you can forget about doing fast picking on heavy distortion.

Its either clean and laggy or noisy and and keeping up with the picking.

I used this product on a Dell 9" netbook (1.6Ghz Atom, 2GB SDRAM) with Windows 7 RC, a custom PC (2.4Ghz QuadCore, 4GB SDRAM) with Windows 7 RC and a Mac Mini (2.0Ghz Core2Duo, 2GB SDRAM) with OSX.



On Windows 7 I did have problems installing the driver from the setup but expected this with any new OS. After it tried to install I just updated the driver and pointed to the Behringer one. I also installed ASIO4ALL since it has a little bit more configuration anyway and can help alleviate latency issues. On OSX I just plugged it in.



With the Windows 7 RC netbook and desktop I used a demo of Guitar Rig 3 to test out the real-time effects processing. It took a little tweaking of the settings for the ASIO settings to get the latency down below 10ms and also to get the output to go to my speakers rather than the headphone jack on the UCG102. On the Dell netbook Guitar Rig was unusable. I have read other posts that have some suggestions to get it to work but I could not. This is a processing power limitation and has nothing to do with the UCG102. On my QuadCore PC this was not an issue.



With OSX I used a demo of Guitar Rig and Garageband to test out the real-time effects processing. I had some issues with latency in Garageband since it doesn't let you do the sample rate adjusting that Guitar Rig 3 does but still was within acceptable range. It also took me a little while to get the sound to output to my speakers rather than the headphone jack on the UCG102 (HINT: create an aggregate device in the Audio MIDI utility).



All-in-all the device does exactly what I want it to do. It doesn't work nearly as well in OSX as in Windows 7 but it is still within the real-time playblack realm. I am sure if I wanted to inspect it any further that there are some hacks/tweaks in OSX I could apply to improve the latency.

This is a nice product. Worked out of the box for me. The guitar combos are descent and are good for a beginner.

I use headphones while playing the guitar. I would love to connect my headphones and hear the music from it rather from through link. This way it would be easier to play guitar and listen to other music with out switching. This is the only dissapointment

I bought a brandnew Laptop (Acer Aspire)and wanted to use this interface for some homerecording. I could not get it to work with Windows 7. There are no drivers available. I finally had to return it. Instead I bought Presonus Audiobox. Drivers are offered on the supprt page Windows 7 64 bit. It works fine. I had no trouble at all!

I bought this for playback, rather than recording. E-MU (a subsidiary of Creative) hasn't bothered to update the drivers for the 0202 USB in nearly three years. Needless to say, the drivers haven't been updated for Windows 7, and are around 60mb. They take forever to download because the E-MU website crawls. On my laptop (a Sony Vaio), I experienced the DPC latency issue others have described below: no matter how much I twiddled with the configuration, I kept getting pops and crackles. I also had to turn the device on, off, and back on after plugging it in for it to work. Maybe it works wonderfully on Macs and older versions of Windows, but I doubt it. If you're looking for a good USB DAC at this prince range, consider the Nuforce uDAC.

This device is great if it is working 100% correctly. Even with the latest driver this thing will switch bit rates, or even block out bitrates. We can unplug it, plug it back in and the driver will only allow it to run at 16bit 44.1khz, you then have to unplug again and replug to get it to accept other bit rate/depth settings. Also, the lack of Linux support really was a killer. Initially we really wanted something to dedicate to an Ubuntu Studio box, but in the end it gets plugged in part time to a Windows 7 machine.

Don't bother with this piece of junk if you're using Windows 7. The hardware may be great for playback but, for recording, the crappy drivers keep resetting the sampling rate to 44khz under Windows 7. Emu has not put out any new drivers since early 2008. If you're doing vinyl rips, like I wanted to, you might want to look at the Edirol UA-1EX or the Xitel INport Deluxe instead and save yourself a bunch of money and a big headache.

+Works good on guitar with high impedance plug-in.

-Noisy on both mic plug-ins. If I yell into the mic it will spontaneously cut noise out and randomly come back (faintly). Happened with different mics. I can't really troubleshoot if it's noise from the PSU or my USB 2.0 card.

-USB chord was DOA. Had to use a spare. Tested with spares. Some chords created more pops than others but noise was the same for all. Get a high quality chord.
