 "Yamaha YPT-320 review" 2010-08-31
By maximvk (BLAINE, WA, US)
Very nice keyboard for a beginner or an experienced musician.

Tons of great features which I have yet to learn. Sounds very realistic, better then Casio keyboards.

The only dissapointment was that on the product discription page it does not say that keyboard comes with AC adapter. Based on the description and the suggestion from Amazon that together with the keyboard customers were buying AC adapter; I ordered AC adapter separately. Now I have 2 adapters, one of them is collecting dust and was additional expense to me for no reason. Beware! Do not order separate AC adapter with this keyboard, it already comes with one. I give 4 stars because of that, otherwise it would be 5.

I also ordered Yamaha L3C Attachable Keyboard Stand for this keyboard. Yamaha does not say it's compatible with YPT-320, but it fits nicesly. I like the fact that the stand is screwed to the bottom of the keyboard so it will not fly off the stand, like it can do from one of those X-style stands.

CTK-5000 Premium Pack

The Premium Pack bundles the CTK-5000 keyboard with a Yamaha power supply, keyboard stand and professional closed-cup stereo headphones.

Piano-Style Keys with Touch Response
The CTK-5000 features 61 standard-size, piano-style keys and two sensitivity levels for a more piano-like experience, along with 48-note polyphony (24-note for certain tones).

670 Built-In Tones
Find just the right sound with 670 built-in tones, from strings to woodwinds and plenty more. You can layer two different tones (such as piano and strings) or split the keyboard down the middle for an ensemble approach.

Reverb and Chorus Effects
Select from ten different reverb and five different chorus effects to add depth and shimmer to your performance.

USB Port
For many musicians, the computer has become a music-making center. Connect the CTK-5000 to a computer using a USB cable and exchange MIDI data between the two devices. Send play data from the keyboard to music software running on your computer, or send MIDI data from your computer to the keyboard for playback.

SD Memory Card Support
The CTK-5000 supports SD Memory Cards up to 2 GB, so you can store sampled sounds, user rhythms, recorded songs, and more, without running out of memory.

Built-In Sampling
You can use the CTK-5000 to sample a sound from a portable audio player or other device, and then play the sound with keyboard keys. Sample up to ten seconds, and store up to five sampled sounds to keyboard memory.

You can also loop sampled sounds so they continue to play, or replace individual sounds on drum patches.

The flagship of the CTK-series. Click to enlarge.

Intuitive editing and controls.

Internal speakers and battery-powering option for full portability.

152 Built-In Songs and Ten User Songs
The CTK-5000 comes with a bank of songs for your learning and enjoyment, from classics like "Greensleeves" or "Auld Lang Syne" to holiday tunes like "Jingle Bells."

You can also record your own performances, using up to six tracks of different instruments.

Step Up Lessons
To master a song, it is best to break it up into shorter parts (phrases), master the phrases, and then put everything together. The CTK-5000 features a "Step Up Lesson" feature that helps you to do just that. The built-in songs are pre-divided into phrases to help you master keyboard play. Step Up Lesson takes you through practice of the right hand part, left hand part, and both hand parts for each phrase of a song. Master all of the phrases and you master the song.

Music Challenge Keyboard Game
Music Challenge is a game that measures your reaction speed as you press keys in response to on-screen keyboard indicators and fingering guide indications.

Auto Accompaniment
With Auto Accompaniment, simply select an accompaniment pattern. Each time you play a chord with your left hand the appropriate accompaniment will play automatically. It's like having a personal backup group along with you wherever you go.

You can also edit and save up to 10 of your own auto accompaniment patterns.

Auto Harmonize
Auto Harmonize automatically adds harmony to notes you play with your right hand, which adds rich depth to the melody of your performances. You can select from among 12 types of Auto Harmonize to suit the type of music you are playing.

Arpeggiator
The Arpeggiator makes it possible to play an arpeggio pattern automatically. There are 90 different arpeggio patterns from which to choose in order to match the music you are playing.

Transpose Function
An easy operation instantly changes the key of the keyboard.

Audio Input
Play along with MP3 or CD players or other devices by plugging them into the stereo mini input jack.

Battery or AC Power
Power the CTK-5000 with six D-sized batteries or purchase the AD-5 AC adapter separately to power from your electrical outlets. Built-in speakers make the keyboard entirely portable.

An Auto Power Off feature turns off the device six minutes after the last key is touched, helping you save batteries.

 "Lots of hassle" 2010-04-28
By R. Biel (CO)
My husband ordered this as my birthday gift. When I received the product, the box outside was fine. However, all other boxes inside look like they were in the weather for years. The result was that they keyboard did not function right. I had to exchange. The second time I received the package, it was not any different than the first time. The stand was rusted some places. The headphone especially did not work. I called up Amazon to exchange the headphone. They said that I had to return the whole package, not just one item. What?????????? The keyboard has been working great. I play everyday. But, forget about the headphone. If you like the keyboard and looking for cheap price, this should be the way you go. However, I'm still wonder if the keyboard was an open boxed one because the boxes of bothe times looked very bad, and no sign of manufactor seal. Just talk about keyboard itself, I recommand it.

"Great for intermediate wanna-be Musicians" 2010-03-30
By J. Collesano (Los Angeles, CA)
Critical Review:

The CTK-5000 is a great keyboard for those who need something better than the intro models, but aren't professional musicians. It's somewhere in between a toy and professional. For the price - you can't really beat it when looking for a new keyboard. I've been a long time CTK user, and the piano style keys are nice. If you want weighted keys, look elsewhere. Quite honestly I've preferred the feel of older casio models even though they weren't "Piano style".

The expression and tones on this keyboard are excellent for the price. I'm a former sax player, and there have been huge improvements on their various saxophones which is great. The standard drumset is pretty amazing too. Pitch wheel is their best yet, but I wish it could be better still.

The stand is great. VERY STURDY.

The headphones are garbage.

If you are a beginner - it's a good choice if money is no object. The CTK-3000 might be better for you if money is the thing....

If you are advanced and know your casios....you realize this is a great keyboard but there were things in old casios that were better.

If you want something you're really going to love and use....spend 500 on something else. If that's too much - this is your best option.

"Nice stand, but poor fit!" 2009-04-05
By maven (NY)
This makes my Previa keyboard look really good. However, it's built to be screwed right onto the keyboard, not for a keyboard to sit in. When assembled, it is too tight to fit the keyboard, and so the panels have to be rigged in resulting in bent plastic parts and screws showing.

 "Great looking!" 2009-03-19
By A. Ansley (DC)
I got this stand yesterday with my new Casio PX-320. I was planning to paint it a high-gloss black color to match my office furniture, but I was actually surprised that the dark finish looked so good. It's not jet black of course, but looks quite nice. It matches the PX-320 perfectly.

I was especially surprised at the thought Casio put into the assembly. They re-purposed the styrofoam packing material to serve as leg holders during assembly. This made it super easy to put it together for just 1 person. I have never seen that before and was very thankful since it made assembly so easy.

I do wish it were a tad sturdier though. I do notice some wobble while banging on the keys. Maybe that's because it's not pushed up flush against the wall (b/c of the baseboard). With it being so lightweight (as well as the keyboard), I guess it's not that surprising. Love it overall!

 "Very surprisingly terrific" 2010-01-10
By Macolyte (Baltimore, MD)
I just got this for my 10 yo son for use both as a composing instrument and in a new band that he was part of. I expected, from these reviews and others, to get a beefed-up kids-type keyboard. Boy, was I wrong. This thing is truly amazing; very nice feel to the keys (not a piano, but decent resistance), very sophisticated looking and with a torrent of sound creation features that almost defy learning, no less use. Terrific sound. All in all, more than he or I ever dreamt (or perhaps needed) in a keyboard. He is now been pulled off the computer to play his new keyboard many hours a day. It's really great, and I'm glad I made this choice.

One thing - it is pretty big, and it might be worth buying the carrying bag as well if you plan to transport in anywhere more than once.

 "Excellent Keyboard" 2010-01-09
By E. Mathews (North Port, FL)
I had recently purchased the Casio CTK 5000 which is virtually the same as this model but 61 keys. So I was not in the dark as far as the voices, rhythms and SD card features because they are on both models. Even though I am an amateur keyboard enthusiast I have had Yamaha keyboards in the past and I also have the Casio AP 45 digital piano. I must say that the quality of sound on the CASIO products is equal to Yamaha and for someone just wanting to open the box and start playing, Casio has it beat. If your looking for a keyboard, I highly recommend the Casio WK 500 and wish that I would have gone with this 76 key model when I purchased about a month ago. The feature I like the most is being able to download midi files on the internet and play them on the CASIO. You can search high and low and you won't beat the price at AMAZON. The pricing, shipping and service is fantastic.

 "Great personal keyboard" 2010-01-03
By M. Birch (Methuen, MA United States)
If you want a personal keyboard for home use - practice, or soundtracking or recording, this keyboard will definitely fit the bill. It's a little lightweight, don't think it would hold up to hard gigging, though.

Fantastic selection of built-in sounds, the pianos and strings sounds excellent and there are some great sampled sounds - saxes, drums, etc, and you can also sample your own sounds into the machine. It has USB, headphone and line outs.

76 keys make this more than a toy, and the touch-sensitivity - which uses speed rather that pressure - takes a little getting used to. Built-in recorder, arpregiator; sounds and songs can be saved onto a memory card, too.

One thing that would make it better is if Casio had printed the various function and other button keys in a bright color that could be read easily. Bright overhead light is needed.

"A Warning about Sam Ash" 2009-12-30
By Greg M. Stoops (Baltimore)
I don't believe that Sam Ash actually carries the Casio Wk-500. I have a strong hunch that they use a low price as a "bate and switch" ploy to lure customers onto their website. Sam Ash advertises the Casio WK-500 for $254 with free shipping, which is about $75 cheaper than Guitar Center. I ordered this item from Sam Ash about a week before Christmas with the expectation that it would arrive a few days late. On Christmas eve, I got a notice in my email telling me that my order had been canceled because the keyboard was no longer in stock. When I went back to their website, I saw that Sam Ash still had the keyboard listed as "in stock". I printed the ad from Sam Ash and took it to Guitar Center. Guitar Center matched the Sam Ash price and even took off the Maryland state tax. I've had the keyboard for two days and I'm very happy with it. The Piano tones are very realistic. I plugged it to my computer with a USB cable and Windows Vista installed the drivers in ten seconds. I've used it as a midi controller for Fruity Loops and Acid Pro 7 and it works perfectly. It came with a power supply as advertised, many other units listed on Amazon do not. I had to use the instruction booklet to figure out some of the advanced functions like recording and lessons, but the keyboard is pretty intuitive and it only took me an hour or two to figure it all out.

I would recommend buying a stand and a sustain pedal to go with this keyboard. If you are an experienced player, which I'm not, the keys will probably feel very light. The action on the keys is not at all like a real piano and they are a bit scaled down in size. I shopped around for a while looking for a good keyboard and this definitely had the most features I could find in any unit made by any manufacturer for under $400.

By Michael Teter
I am an adult beginner. I can read music, but my primary problem is keeping the proper rhythm. The lessons grade performance and highlight timing errors, and with practice, I can get over 90% on a lesson. They are really helpful, but they do require a MIDI keyboard. All in all I am completely satisfied with the software.

 "Dated But Works" 2009-11-04
By oneweigh
They need to update the software. Old tech, to get full screen you need to mess with desktop settings etc... It's very obvious they have not given this software any serious attention after it was released. That said it does what it's supposed to.

Ignore the single star folks; don't know what they are talking about. It doesn't matter what the songs are when you are learning to play the piano. It's all about practice so YOU THAT YOU CAN GO PLAY WHATEVER YOU WANT. If you can already read music and play the keyboard, buy the intermediate course. It's very well done, but it's all classical music.

For me, I'm self taught and play by ear. I bought this so I can get real feedback while I'm playing. So if playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Row Row Your Boat gets me there I have no problem with it. It still challenges me to read the music and master left, right hand.

 "couldn't be happier" 2010-02-14
By N. Moore
This keyboard is great. The speakers sound great and are plenty loud enough. Most of the time i leave it at half way. It's very light but kind of big. which isn't really a problem, it's a 76 key after all. the only problem i have with it is that it does not save your settings. using the function key will show you a lot of settings to change, it reverts back to default at each power up. so i have to go in every time i turn it on and change a few things. but it sounds great, it feels great, it has a lot of songs and instruments. for $200 i could not be happier.

At first I did not have a problem; then after a few weeks I had a few clicking keys, and now after a few months I have seven or eight. It seems like the keys which get used the most develop this problem the fastest. It is annoying, but I can live with it seeing that the keyboard was so inexpensive. Everything else about this keyboard is wonderful. (Do make sure to get yourself a quality pedal for sustain. The one from MGear is great.) The easy to view electronic fingering display is the best tool I've ever come across to aid in teaching oneself how to play certain songs. There is a nice bank of songs in the memory, and by following the display, slowing the songs down, and pausing them along the way, you can teach yourself how to play one in a few days to a week. The best thing of all is that it shows you where to place your fingers. I now see that the correct fingering is critical in being able to reach for the right notes and allow the notes to flow easily.

 "Casio 76 Key Keyboard" 2010-02-02
By Paula (Illinois)
The keyboard is excellent. Weighted keys. Good sound. So much I can't even list everything. I went thru Casio directly and ordered a power cord. This does not come with it. There should have been a link or something advising this. The power cord was less than $27 including shipping and tax. I read the reviews after the purchase and noticed people had trouble getting the right power cord from Amazon, so I decided to go thru Casio and there was no problem.Casio WK-200 76-Key Personal Keyboard with MP3/Audio Connection and 570 Tones

"Cheapest 76-key Keyboard, But Not Piano Sized Keys...And Keys Creak" 2010-01-22
By Just a reviewer
I think for those who want to grow into intermediate piano level, this is the cheapest 76-key keyboard you can get apart from actually having an acoustic piano or hammer-action 88-key keyboards. I don't recommend 61-key keyboards unless you just want a toy that limits your repertoire.

Key Size:

I guess hammer action on inexpensive 76-key keyboards are apparently out of the question. So I'll turn my attention to the size of the keys themselves. One thing to keep in mind is that the keys on this keyboard are not piano sized. I measured a span of 5 octaves, and they are almost 1/2 inch shorter than the span of 5 octaves on a piano. But then again, neither does the more professional and more expensive 76-key Yamaha NP30 have piano-sized keys. Additionally, the Yamaha YPT-220 is about 1 inch shorter in its 5 octave span than that of a piano, this WK-200 is a little bit better.

Creaking Keys:

The quality of these Casio keys are not as good as those of Yamaha. I went to four separate stores and played around with these keyboards, and both the WK-200 and the WK-500 exhibited this creaking sound. To get an idea of what I mean, just turn off the keyboard and play something silently. Some keys will have a spongy, clicking sound. I checked out some Yamaha keyboards, and they didn't exhibit the same creaking or to the same extent if they did have a little bit, so I think Yamaha really pays attention to this problem. I would imagine some people won't notice, but for those that do, this might start to bother you after a while. For me, it was almost a relief that I didn't just get a defective one and that most of the lower end Casios have this issue, so I plan to keep it around for a while and sell it once I outgrow it.

Bottom line: If you want to get decent at the piano but can't afford something too expensive, this is a good option. But know that the keys are not piano-sized, and it doesn't have any Hammer Action that mimics the feel of pressing down on piano keys. Also, some keys have a creaky sound, so if you just want the cheapest thing to help you become a piano player, I think this will do. If you have a few hundred more dollars, I would look for greener pastures like the Yamaha NP30, Casio CDP-100, Casio Privia PX-120, or Casio Privia PX-130.

"As Good As It Gets In This Price Range" 2010-01-20
By Michael (New York, NY)
I have to laugh at the reviewers who are negatively comparing this piano to a professional grand that was used in a studio recording, or even keyboards that are priced in the $500-$1000 range. Get real!!! This is a 76-key instrument with the richest sound you can find for $200. It's more than adequate for a beginner to learn on (emphasis on "more than"!!) and there's no reason you couldn't use this in a semi-pro (or, for all I know, pro) studio environment. A lot of the tones are very lovely. The display is shockingly good for the price: every note you play gets displayed on the screen, both the key location and in its position on the staff. There are excellent built-in lessons for newcomers, endless tones and rhythms to play with, and an array of ins and outs (headphone, mic, MP3, usb to computer for midi connectivity).

Included in the box are an AC adaptor, music holder AND a pair of sheet music books. If there's one thing Casio knows how to do, it's cater to the consumer. How can they not be losing money on this fantastic product?

Touch-Sensitive Lighted Keyboard
The LK-270 features 61 standard-size keys and two sensitivity levels for a more piano-like experience, along with 48-note polyphony (24-note for certain tones).

The "LK" in LK-270 stands for "Lighted Keyboard." Designed to provide a fun way to learn how to play music, the keys illuminate to show you what notes to play in lessons or built-in songs.

570 Built-In Tones
Find just the right sound with 570 built-in tones, from strings to woodwinds and plenty more. You can layer two different tones (such as piano and strings) or split the keyboard down the middle for an ensemble approach.

Reverb and Chorus Effects
Select from ten different reverb and five different chorus effects to add depth and shimmer to your performance.

Have some fun with the included microphone and the LK-270's Karaoke feature. The karaoke feature can be used with 52 of the built-in songs, and lowers the volume of the melody part so you can sing along, just like a karaoke machine.

SD Memory Card Support

USB Port
For many musicians, the computer has become a music-making center. Connect the LK-270 to a computer using a USB cable and exchange MIDI data between the two devices. Send play data from the keyboard to music software running on your computer, or send MIDI data from your computer to the keyboard for playback.

Intuitive editing and controls.

Internal speakers and battery-powering option for full portability.

Learn quickly with Casio's famous lighted-key "Step Up" lesson system.

Built-In Sampling
You can use the LK-270 to sample a sound from a portable audio player or other device, and then play the sound with keyboard keys. Sample up to ten seconds, and store up to five sampled sounds to keyboard memory.

You can also loop sampled sounds so they continue to play, or replace individual sounds on drum patches.

152 Built-In Songs and Ten User Songs
The LK-270 comes with a bank of songs for your learning and enjoyment, from classics like "Greensleeves" or "Auld Lang Syne" to holiday tunes like "Jingle Bells."

You can also record your own performances, using up to six tracks of different instruments.

Step Up Lessons
To master a song, it is best to break it up into shorter parts (phrases), master the phrases, and then put everything together. The LK-270 features a "Step Up Lesson" feature that helps you to do just that.

Power the LK-270 with six D-sized batteries or purchase the AD-5 AC adapter separately to power from your electrical outlets. Built-in speakers make the keyboard entirely portable.

An Auto Power Off feature turns off the device six minutes after the last key is touched, helping you save batteries.

"Looks Like an Instrument Instead of a Toy" 2010-03-20
By Bao Hoang (Plano, TX)
I bought this keyboard as a nice present for a friend that "fell in love" with the LK-100 she saw at Sam's Club for $150 (keyboard only). I looked online and found out Casio has four keyboards in the lighted (and affordable) LK line: LK-100, LK-220, LK-230, and LK-270. Having never seen any of these keyboards in person, I agonized about which one to get and finally picked this one because the speakers seemed to look the coolest, even though on my laptop, they are all only the size of my thumb. I'm very glad I chose this one, because a few weeks later, I saw the other keyboards in person, and this one is the only one that looks like an instrument instead of a toy. I taught myself to play the piano many years ago, and this lighted teaching method is way, way better. Plus, it was only $50 more than the LK-100, but also included the keyboard stand ($30-$50 value), power adapter (at least $20), and headphones ($10-$20). If you didn't already know, power adapters are usually not included with most keyboards, and who wants to buy 6 D-size batteries that run out in a few hours? Not much else to add except maybe a sustain pedal and piano bench.

 "LOVE this Keyboard!!" 2010-03-01
By L. Gilbert (Saint Joseph, MO, USA)
I absolutely love this keyboard. It has a wonderful sound and lots of features. I like the light-up key function though I tend to learn better reading music myself. I love the fact that I was able to hook it easily to my PC with a USB cord and instantly mix great tunes through my music programs. I also have a sustain petal hooked up to it, and it offers great sound. With the right microphone hooked up to it, it gives stage performance quality sound. It is amazing. The stand that comes with it is not very sturdy, but it has yet to tip and holds my keyboard up with no problems. I have not experienced that factory smell that others have mentioned. I love the sound the earphones offer too. Great bass, and I like how you can adjust the volume on the earphones themselves. I could not be happier with my purchase!! Especially for this price, WOW!!!

 "well,well, well," 2010-02-17
By Kawai Desu (ALTUS, OK, US)
At first I doubt buying things online, but after my first purchase to amazon.com I am so amazed with their shipping time. This Casio LK-270 was my 2nd purchase to amazon. The Total Packaging is good. They make sure that the product is safe and secured.

Before I purchased this portable piano I've been thinking which one i will order is it the yamaha ez5000 or this casio lk-270? until i decided to have the casio. When it arrived i opened it. it has a lot of features, and i thought the light on the key would help since it is my first time to try this. I was just bored doing nothing thats why i decided to pick this, I was inspired watching people playing piano in youtube. The key lighting keyboard doesn't help me. and I can't turn it off. Good for kids so they can have fun. I'm on my 20's though..

The best thing is that try to learn and keep learning to play piano and be well motivated enough. But for the price it well ok. but i found some store who offers much cheaper price! and it leaves me no choice =(

pros: easy to carry and very light

it sounds good like stereo

lots of built in music (but uninteresting)

the stand is ok if you have a carpet floor, just a little bit scary put it on a safe place

the Headset is ok

AC adapter is included too

Music sheets included but i suggest to order some music notes

cons: It looks like, it won't last very long since....

---> Everything is MADE IN CHINA

But it's ok for dull moments (^__^) next time i'll get the yamaha (*__*)

"Great little passtime, one shortcoming." 2010-01-26
By Ken W. (Lawrenceville, GA USA)
It's amazing how sophistocated these little digital keyboards have become. This one has the latest AHL 64-tone polyphany sound engine from Casio. Great acoustic simulations! (great price too!) With the lighted keys it reminds me of the old player piano my grandmother had (sans the punch hole paper music rolls!). Now you can just download MIDI files free from the Internet and play them on this device using a SD memory card. You can get 300 songs on 16 MB (not GB!) so the useless little card that came with my Canon PowerShot has a new life!

The MIDI song player is super cool! Think of Jerry Lee Lewis playing this box! The Beatles! Stones! Elvis! Ray Charles! This is on top of the multitude of built-in songs, tones, rhythyms and set-ups that are included. With all the keys lighting up it makes play-along much more fun since you can see the notes as they are playing and try to keep up.

Oh yes, the shortcoming I mentioned is that the LCD display doesn't light up... Seems it would have been simple and cheap for our Asian brothers to add this one extra little light so you can read the display in the dark. Would have made this little digital keyboard perfecter.
