The CP33 is made for the serious musician on-the-go. Sit down with one, and the instrument becomes an extension of your hands and your musical imagination. The authentic piano voices and rich expressiveness come alive at your touch, and the sound is big enough to blast through a full band onstage - yet nuanced enough to work magic in an intimate club. Yamaha's extensive experience in crafting fine acoustic pianos helps us in creating the ultimate digital pianos. Our advanced Graded Hammer Effect (GHE) action gives all keys an authentic resistance that increases from the top register to the lower - just as on an actual acoustic piano. Which means that you can naturally pound out thunderous low notes with your left hand and let the fingers on your right dance and fly with the high notes. In crafting the authentic sound of the CP series, we used meticulously recorded stereo samples of top-quality instruments, taken at various playing strengths, and included subtle elements such as String Resonance, Stereo Sustain, and even Key-Off Samples that capture the felt dampers muting the piano strings - providing the most authentic sounding and finely nuanced acoustic piano voices possible. The CP stage pianos are also master keyboard controllers that give you full command of your gear. Play and control external tone generators. Assign different voices to different keyboard sections and create multi-textured layers of sound. Two instrument zones on the CP33 with panel sliders, let you easily tweak the level of each instrument as you play. You can also freely reassign the sliders and wheels to control other sonic characteristics of your gear, such as sound attack, decay, brightness and filter cutoff. At just under 40 lbs. the CP33 is a very compact and portable yet full size stage piano.

 "Valuable Digital Piano" 2010-05-14

The piano is as good as I expected, except some scratches on the white keys.

Anyway, this is an open box one, and price is nice, we can not expect too much.

Five stars.

"Touch is not Grand, but it serves it's purpose" 2010-03-26
By D. Robbins (Boston, Ma)
I own the P85 because I have limited space and wanted a light, portable, weighted-key, instrument with built-in speakers for practicing.

CONS:

1. Touch: I enjoy the action well-enough to practice on it every day, and anything is playable on it, including fast challenging pieces. But the P85 does not feel or respond like a grand piano, in spite of what other reviewers have said; in some aspects, it's not even as good as an upright. But better boards will cost you a lot more- I personally would vouch for the Yamaha S90 keyboard action, but for $2000; and the P85 is the best in its price range- beats a similar Casio model for sure. As I got more familiar with the P85 the past few months, these are the things I overlooked while testing it out in the store: Extremely fast repeated notes don't work (due to the escapement mechanism being too high). This sounds technical, but it means you have limited dynamic/expressive range. Subtleties produced by a sensitive musician will go largely unnoticed by the P85. Finally, the touch does not reflect the difference between high and low notes; low notes should feel heavier and offer more resistance to press, generally; but they are completely equal on this board.

2. Speakers: The speakers offer too much bass, and you cannot equalize the levels manually, so the bass is always boomier than the treble.

3. Dynamic range: The range is ok, but limited. The louds are not loud enough (seems to be compensated for by adding a lot of bass), and the softs are not soft enough. But, this is always the case with synths.

4. Overall Construction: There are no standard output jacks, so you have to use the headphone jacks (it has 2) if you want to plug in your own amp. A music stand is included, but it's pretty useless as these always are on synths.

Pros:

1.Built-in speakers are wonderfully silent when power is on and you're not playing, and they have a nice upper range sound.

2.Light-weight and sturdy

3.Passable sound for various venues like musical theater shows or church where all you have to do is play a few general dynamics.

4.Simple user interface is attractive and uncluttered

5.Doesn't use much electricity, (it includes a small 2-prong A/C adapter), plus you won't need to hook up an amp either.

6.A good amount of adjustable features (although you'll have to read the manual to figure out how to use them, because the user interface is so basic). For example, you can adjust the touch to match your style of playing, you can couple sounds like piano+strings, you can adjust the metronome to any meter or tempo.

Do not get this instrument... If you are looking for an authentic grand piano feel; if you want to wallow in the beauty of your sound.

The only thing that could be better is the pedal which sometimes moves around while playing.

 "Amazing piano" 2010-03-02
By Stephen Chan (Seattle, WA)
I purchased the P85 to learn the piano after stopping for 15 years. I picked the P85 because it was affordable, it would fit in an apartment with limited space, and it was the best sounding digital piano for the price. I've had the chance to try this piano against an upright acoustic and a grand piano, and while there are differences, it isn't difficult to transfer skills between them.

[+] good [-] bad [*] different than acoustic piano

THE SOUND

[+] Piano voices sound realistic. Each note is beautifully distinctive, and never goes out of tune

[+] Better with headphones. The richness of the notes is even better when listening through a good set of headphones

[-] Other voices are worthless. The recordings for the other instrument choices sound toy-like compared to the high quality of the piano recordings. It feels like you are playing with MIDIs when you use the other voices.

[-] Speakers lack power. The speakers are not good enough to reproduce the sounds of the original recordings.

[*] Max volume is softer than an acoustic piano. It is easy to get into the habit of hammering the P85 keys because the digital records will still sound good, and it never gets too loud. But when switching to an acoustic, the same banging will sound ugly.

[*] The sustain is shorter when holding the pedal. Since the digital notes don't interact with each other, you can continuously hold the pedal, and each new note you play can still be heard clearly. For acoustic pianos, the sustain is longer and the new notes jumble together with the previous notes creating a muddled wall of noise.

THE FEEL

[+] The keys have a nice weight to them which transfers almost exactly to the skills needed for an acoustic piano

[+] The size of the keys also transfers nicely to an acoustic piano

[-] The pedal is too small to use. Fortunately, better petals are available, and not expensive.

[*] The keys of the P85 were heavier than the upright acoustic I used, and similar to the grand piano. You will get stronger fingers playing the p85. I found I could play the upright better after spending some time with the P85, but that it took longer to transition back to the p85 after a few weeks with the acoustic.

THE FEATURES

[+] Ready to go. You can turn on the piano and start playing within a few seconds. There is no need to fiddle with setting as everything is optimally set as defaults.

[-] The metronome is one of the most annoying features of this piano. There is a left and right button which changes the speed of the metronome, but each time you press it, it seems to double the speed. So it is always too fast or too slow. And it has an extra bell that signifies the start of a bar in 4/4 time. In order to change the time signature or get a more precise speed, you need to hold down the metronome button and press a specific note on the keyboard. Which requires having the manual on you at all times. An extra button to control the time signature, and easier control over the metronome speed would have been ideal.

THE SETUP

[+] Lightweight. It is easy to pick up and move, and the small profile makes it less awkward to carry.

[+] Stable. It sits firmly on a z-stand, and I've never had a problem with it shifting while playing.

OVERALL

The P85 makes piano playing addictive because it sounds so good, but can lead to bad habits with how loud to play, and how long to hold the pedal. However the fundamentals of how to play transfer very well from the P85 to an acoustic piano. You can also play at any time of day or night without bothering others because of the headphones option. The P85 is a joy to play, and I highly recommend it.

 "Great value" 2010-02-11
By Svein Morten Drejer
I'm really pleased with this piano. I'm an intermediate player, and I find that this instrument encompasses my needs. It has its limitations, though, especially when it comes to sound quality. The built in speakers are OK, but nothing more. The piano sound is good, but still a deal away from the real deal, of course. The feel of the keys is good, maybe a touch on the heavy side for my taste. In sum this is a great beginner/intermediate piano for the player on a budget. Well worth the price tag.

 "Good" 2010-01-31
By Chris Cooper
Overall this is a very good product. I initially shied away from this because I've associated the Casio name with cheap plastic keyboards such as the kind you buy for kids. I bought it because, overall, the ratings were much better than I expected for (my preconceived notions about) a Casio. My preconceived notions are destroyed: this is a very good product. First - and this is important - this is a piece of furniture, not a cheap hunk of black and white plastic (and therefore this paino is not portable). It is a pleasure to look at and to play. It is easy to assemble and I did it by myself. The sound is crisp and clear. Does it sound like a real grand piano? Of course not! If you want the sound of a concert grand, shell out 110k for the basic D model and enjoy! If you are like me and can't spare 110k at the moment, but still love the sound of a concert grand, you will be happy with the sound of this product at 0.007th % of the price. I have only two complaints, one minor and one of more significance. The minor one is the clacking sound made by the keys make when you are playing pp. The not so minor one is that the keys are a little too heavy and takes some getting used to. You will have to adjust when paying your D model ;-)

BTW: Two points about about assembly: (1) be careful when you unpack the piano because some of the packing material is used to aid assembly; (2) do not tighten all the bolts until everything is assembled as some of the final parts are a tight fit (I scuffed on part a bit trying to fit a right angle together).

"Love the piano, but the petal bar broke during shipping" 2010-01-27
By lynn98110 (Pittsburgh)
I really love the piano. The quality is awesome. It feels like a real piano, and it has a elegant design to it!

However, I have two problem with it.

1) The headphone jack does not work. One advantage that a digital piano has over traditional piano is the headphone feature, and I specifically checked this feature before I purchased this piano. The phone jack works, but only if I hold it in the whole time. As soon as I am not pushing it in, the sound comes out from the piano speaker. I am fairly disappointed, and will go to radio shack or something to search for an solution.

2) The bar with the three foot pedals had already broken in half when it came. I was really upset, but I taped it and put it together. It works fine now, but I am calling Casio for a repair.

These issues have nothing to do with the quality of the piano itself, but just something to take a note of. Remember to check the petal bar upon receiving before you sign for the UPS guy!!

"Sounds great. Looks nice. Son loves it." 2009-11-10
By J. Douglas (Michigan)
This is all that we hoped. The sound quality and the look and feel are excellent. A few days ago I saw a Yamaha in a similar setup (case design was similar to the PX-800) for 499 but when looking closer at the display I could see that it was not near the quality of this Casio. The keys on that Yamaha seemed like a much lower priced keyboard. This Casio, on the other hand, has keys that feel very much like a traditional piano. No regrets about paying almost double for this unit compared to the Yamaha at the club store - I would do it again.

 "PX800, a really good one!" 2009-10-03
By Eric Yu
Bought this piano for about 3 months as a second piano for my son to practice. My son has been using Yamaha U1 for many years. This PX800 produces great sound like a real piano. When my son playing piano in the living room, we can't tell which piano he's playing, the real one, or the digital one? In fact, my boy likes to play PX800 a lot more, as the digital piano can produce many other interesting and beautiful sounds beside piano tune, it makes piano practice more fun.

 "Casio PX800" 2009-09-24
By M. Pagels (Salt Lake City, UT USA)
Received the PX800 a couple of days ago. The packaging was pretty battered and basically fell apart on its own, the piano parts were fine though. Contrary to other reviewers I did have some troubel putting it together. I am usuallt pretty handy with tools and don't have problems setting up Ikea furniture but somehow it took me ages to install the pedal bar - the screws for the corner protectors were rather fiddely. Up front I would like to state that this digital piano is good for the price I paid and the purpose it is for (not professional, just for fun). However, I don't like the keys. The plastic just doesn't feel right and is sticky. Also the weighted hammer action is not as dynamic as I expected. When you decrease the volume a bit you hear the keys clatter quite a lot which is very irritating. Also the sustain padel squeaks and as it is all plastic (give me a break) I don't know if I can use a drop of oil. We have a rather soft carpet in the room where the PX800 stands and it is really unstable - I will have to buy something to put under it. Again: for the price this digital piano is good and it should not be compared to an upright or even a grand. Given the same amount of money I would buy it again (but to be honest - next time I will just spend more...).

 "Computer grading helps" 2010-02-06
By Michael Teter
I am an adult beginner. I can read music, but my primary problem is keeping the proper rhythm. The lessons grade performance and highlight timing errors, and with practice, I can get over 90% on a lesson. They are really helpful, but they do require a MIDI keyboard. All in all I am completely satisfied with the software.

 "Dated But Works" 2009-11-04

They need to update the software. Old tech, to get full screen you need to mess with desktop settings etc... It's very obvious they have not given this software any serious attention after it was released. That said it does what it's supposed to.

Ignore the single star folks; don't know what they are talking about. It doesn't matter what the songs are when you are learning to play the piano. It's all about practice so YOU THAT YOU CAN GO PLAY WHATEVER YOU WANT. If you can already read music and play the keyboard, buy the intermediate course. It's very well done, but it's all classical music.

For me, I'm self taught and play by ear. I bought this so I can get real feedback while I'm playing. So if playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Row Row Your Boat gets me there I have no problem with it. It still challenges me to read the music and master left, right hand.

 "LOVE this product!" 2010-03-01
By L. Gilbert (Saint Joseph, MO, USA)
If you have a keyboard that can hook directly into your PC through MIDI or USB, then this is a must have teaching program. I absolutely love it. I have already gotten through the first 43 lessons and it has helped me a lot so far. I could already read music a little and could tell you where the keys are on the keyboard, so it only helped solidify this for me, but it has helped improve my music reading significantly. I love how it can tell you exactly what you have played wrong when you are hooked up to the PC. It will tell you the percentage of how well you did and whether you played the wrong note or played the note too soon or too late. It has helped me a lot with my timing. I can't wait to go further. It goes through both the beginners and the intermediate lessons, so there is a lot to learn.

 "Perfect Replacement" 2010-01-27
By Russell Blundell (Dallas, TX USA)
I'm the kind of person that gets really uncomfortable learning a new skill from a qualified instructor without having any previous knowledge of said skill. I was really interested in learning the piano so I chose this product. I'm glad to say it is a great tool. Two of my family members who are pretty good on the piano are amazed at the progress I'm making. The software layout is great in giving you the ability to go at your own pace. It always you to continue working on problem areas while skipping those you excel at. The structure of the lessons is great and easy to understand. I recommend this product to anyone interested in learning piano or anyone who is shy about learning as I am.

"Be careful when purchasing the BASICs and METHOD" 2010-01-04
By D. Estrada (Boston, Miami)
Great product (Which I bought directly from Amazon), but...when looking for the Midi USB interface I noticed that Amazon was selling the SAME software but WITH the USB MIDI at $20 less!!! [[ASIN: B002MUALQ4 ]] Turns out that there are Piano and Keyboard METHOD which has 300 lessons and Piano and Keyboard BASICS which only has 50 lessons. Amazon sells the BASICs (50 lessons) software BUT with the MIDI USB interface at $20 less than the Piano and Keyboard METHOD (300 lessons). My point is that Both software programs have the SAME cover so be careful when purchasing!!!

 "Good job" 2009-10-29
By Dale Sanders
I think this is a great product. It walks you through the basics and when you start playing the music has numbers on it that match up to your fingers (1-5) so you can play as you get the hang of reading music. Gradually they remove some of the numbers so your music reading skills improve. The software grades your playing with a percentage score, and gives you details on your errors (if you want them).

Also, it includes short videos of a person playing piano so you can see proper posture and such. Each song comes with (optional) accompaniment, which can make it funner to play (especially with the simple songs).

 "Very well done." 2009-10-26
By Chris
I always wished I hadn't given up on learning piano, so I dusted off my keyboard and got Piano Method. I already know some basic stuff but navigating is very easy, so I got right into the section I needed to be. This product does a great job of building on concepts methodically that make learning easier. If you have a MIDI keyboard be sure and get a USB MIDI cable. When you play any of the songs included, after you are done learning the program shows you on the picture of the keyboard, what mistakes you made. It is very helpful. I am about 1/2 way through the program and am playing some songs. The songs included aren't ok but I am now able to learn some pieces of other songs from a few books of various bands I like. Piano Method teaches you how to read as you are going along, so you can really learn anything you like.
