 "Flimsy and not adjustable" 2010-02-04
By James Roche (Seattle, WA United States)
First of all, the packaging for this item is terrible. It's an unsealed 'clamshell' pack, so, by the time it gets to you, it looks like it's been opened, used, and returned. I reflexively sent the first purchase back to Amazon, and called the manufacturer on the 2nd shipment's arrival. They gave a polite but helpless response. Sadly, the flimsy nature of the packaging is the norm.

The problem with the item is that it's basically garbage. For the price, you'd think that they're adjustable to some degree. The picture you see is not at all deceiving, but try to imagine the metal piping being the consistency of a cheap coat hanger. The black plastic across the top is melted together. The craftsmanship is minimal.

My kid has a big head, fine. These don't reach his ears (he's 2). I tried to adjust them, like you would a pair of stereo headphones. No dice. There's no break in the arms of the headphones. They don't pull out. I stretched out one side, and the other side slurped in. After 3 attempts, I realized that it's just one solid piece of the aforementioned cheesy metal hidden by the melted plastic.

I like Vic Firth drum sticks. They were actually "my brand" when I played a full-size kit, so they have my respect for their seriously crafted items. These "Kidphones" are probably the highest-margin item in their catalog. The main issue I have with these is that the cheap, totally flimsy construction is intended for children. You'd think that, for kids, they'd optimize on sturdiness. My son would destroy these on the first day. They would definitely survive being dropped, but they wouldn't survive being bent up and restored to their original shape. Definitely not.

If you want something better, look for another brand. I find it hard to believe that this piece of sugar item costs more than isolation headphones used for listening to music. I'm going to search for a replacement and, if I don't anything, I'm just going to buy some stereo headphones and cut the cord off.

This is a joke of a product. It makes me wonder what the other reviewers are expecting for their money.

 "Developing drummers" 2009-12-14
By Christian Girard (I am a citizen of the world taking refuge in the USA)
We have a set for our three year old who has been using them for a year with is drum set. Thus, I can comment with a year's experience with the item.

I rate it a 5 for simply providing hearing protection for children.

I rate them a 4 for apparent hearing protection because my son seems to hear me okay when I speak to him and he is wearing the headset. Yes, I do know that they are tuned to a high frequency. Since the adjustment band is customized for a child's head, the headset will not fit on my adult head so that I cannot perform my own listening test to determine the level of sound deadening.

I rate them a 5 for the fit on a child's head.

In summary: the headset looks great, it fits well on a child heads, it properly encloses the entire ear, and it appears to reduce the sound volume to the child's ear, but because of the adjustment's band fitting for a child head an adult cannot actually perform a listening test with the headset.

I ordered this item from this seller on October 6. Delivery was supposed to be Oct. 13 to 16. No such item came. I finally sent an e-mail on October 19 looking for it. Oh, only then did they tell me it is back ordered for another 2 to 4 weeks!! I needed it yesterday. If you call this seller's 800 number, the voice prompt/greeting will play over and over again. It is very hard to speak to a live person. I guess they don't care because they have bulk orders and who am I a small-time $30 order. Beware of this seller. Not a good marketplace seller.  "Great for Kids!" 2009-09-17
By M. Stewart (Port Charlotte, FL)
My son loves these. He has a sensory disorder, so is sensitive to noises. For the most part, we have desensitized him, but I wanted to protect his hearing when we took him to see the Swamp Buggy Races for the first time. He still didn't like the noise when the really big ones came out, but he tolerated it and enjoyed the race. Sometimes he uses them like a security blanket when the thunder is really loud or in busy, public places. I tried earplugs first, but he wouldn't keep them in, and he kept gettign ear infections. The only problem is that they are hot, as is typical for headphones, and they don't fit under/over a hat.

We bought these for my 7 year old who flips out over any loud noises. We used them in Disney for the fireworks shows, on the plane and anywhere there was loud music - they are very comfortable and adjustable and they can still hear - just at an acceptable decibal level! And the price was not too high either! Love these!

 "The perfect companion!" 2009-05-07
By Arthur H. Johnson II (Flint, MI USA)
I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The sound is great, and is plenty loud when you wanna slap away without bothering the family. I even hooked it up to my home theater system, and it really drove the sub-woofer. If your stereo or boombox has decent bass capabilities, you're all set! Next I'm going to hook it up to the computer and see if I can't make some mp3's of my fav licks.

This is a great toy for the experienced bassist, or the beginner just getting started. I would recommend this to anyone.

I use this when I am on the road and want to practice in my hotel room. Its not going to give you anything by way of effects but you can at least not disturb anyone around you while playing. The headphones are not the best but you can plug any 3.5mm heaphone into it. Also, if you are worried about it not being loud have no fear, they are plenty loud when just practicing.

"Pretty good for the price but" 2009-01-25
By Lee J. Davito
For the money...it's a pretty nice sounding practice amp..Plenty of volume and a nice clean tone...I compared the supplied headphones to my Sennheiser studio phones...the latter won hands down (to no surprise)the amp easily drives them..the included set tend to have some bass rolloff.

I was looking for something that also had an auxilary input...so I could blend in music from my walkman or home system...This unit doesn't.....which was my only disappointment.....I wish somebody made a practice amp that accomodated bass and auxilary unit...with independant input level controls...I also like the fact DEAN didn't put a compressor on this...many of us dont care for that feature...altho an adjustable limiter works much better on bass to fatten up your sound and kill any dead spots on the neck

I have a Tascam unit that I am not very impressed with.....too many features and it isn't very user friendly.....I'll review that in a separate column.

All in all...if you're looking for something to practice thru solo...without the option of playing along with music...this is probably your best bet for the money.

 "Overall a good value" 2007-05-27
By John T. Price (Caulfield, Missouri, USA)
This functions well for the money, but there is one drawback. The cord on the headphones is not long enough to go around my chin! I cannot believe that this particular design flaw was not caught. I have lots of headphones with my stereo, MP3, ham radio, etc., and I have never had this particular problem, ever. I'm a large guy, 6'4", and I wear a 7-7/8 hat. A regular sized person has no problem. I use another headset with the unit, which allows a lot of string noise through. However, with headphones that seal around the ear, you have higher volume.

It is a really good concept though, as I can plunk away for hours and not raise the ire of my wife. If you are an average sized person, this is a flawless item.

 "Very Sturdy CRUSH-PROOF Case" 2010-01-19
By Joseph G. D'Agostino (NJ)
I needed a case to fit my Schecter C-1 Classic. The standard length version of this case was 1/2" too short, so I ordered the Extra Long Version (Same case, only lengthened headstock area). I could not be more happy. The case is very sturdy, and I can fit in my guitar with the strap on. In the 2 accessory cutouts inside, I can store a 10' guitar cable, a tuner, a rag, an extra set of strings, and picks. The greatest part is that I still have one accessory cutout that has not been used yet.

This case is also lockable, and I would have no trouble taking it on a plane with me and allowing it to be bumped around in the under carriage. The advantage with the snap locks other than the zippers many cases have is if one fails, you still have a usable case. The case also has a very sturdy bolted on handle as well as a name and address area.

Overall, I definitely feel that I made a quality investment. The case is very study and strong, and very well padded as well as having ample storage room.

****SPECIAL NOTE****

Everyone that says that their guitar does not fit has not measured their guitars dimensions previously. This is an amazing case for the money and much sturdier then the $140.00 SKB Case. Also, guitars with NON-removable Whammy bars may have problems.

Peace everybody, and keep on strumming!

I received this case and have been happy with it so far. I'm in the Navy and travel quite a bit so I needed something tough and lightweight. The only problem with the case is that it does not have a compartment with a lid for storage for picks etc... You can fit stuff in the little corners of the case but it will fly around inside if it is small enough. I just purchased a Kramer Striker and it fits in there just barely but I like the fact it does not move around inside. Not a bad product for the money. I have a SKB case as well and this one is just as good for less money.

"A Great case for a Great Guitar" 2009-06-29
By Slovak Ghost (Pennsylvania)
For the few people saying that this case is bad because it does not fit their guitar, that is their own deal, being that gator offers cases to fit Les Pauls and other shapes sizes. Its not Gator's fault that you didn't do any research. For any kind of strat style guitar this case will fit perfect. It is exceptionally strong and has plenty of room for your accessories. I have had a ton of guitars, with a ton of cases, and by far this is the most structurally sound. Coffin Cases are nice to look at, but cheaply made, as with most OHSCs but this is a true winner.

 "Too Small" 2008-04-23
By Ken Kerang
I have 8 different electric guitars - all shapes and sizes and this case only fit 2 of them - one of which is a cheap student guitar. The Fit-All designation is not that accurate. Its only about an inch or so off in either direction - I can never understand why case manufacturers don't just go the extra mile. The case is actually very thick though - which I suppose may be good in terms of protection but the aesthetics leave a bit to be desired. Overall build is good - I'm just bitter about the Fit.

 "Good, solid guitar protection" 2007-01-09

Gator is a name to be trusted when musical instruments are to be protected. This molded hardshell case is not as long as the plywood Fender cases, but it still has plenty of room to protect your guitar and carry cables, straps and even small pedals. It has "bang for your buck" written all over it, with solid latches and a plush interior. If you really care about your favorite axe, this is a case you can trust.

While looking for a new Cartridge for my Sony Turntable, I stumbled upon the "ION Audio iCT04 DJ". I was desperate for a new Cartridge and the price was right. For only $22.95, I ordered it. Installing it was a breeze and only took me 5 min at the most. After setting the weight, I threw on some vinyl, and i couldn't believe how much better it sounded than my last cartridge. It might not be the best, but it sure is the best for the price. I've pretty much played my turntable everyday and have not had a single problem. I'm definitely happy with this buy.

"Great EQ for the money." 2010-04-08
By T. Fucik (Austin, TX)
This is essential identical to the Boss GE-7, but in a smaller, plastic enclosure. It's not the sturdiest pedal, but it does sound quite good. It is very transparent sounding with very little noise. It has the same frequency bands as the Boss version and works like a champ. It has PCB mounted plastic jacks, so if you're rough on gear, don't expect it to hold up to the rigors of the road. Mine sits mounted in the middle of my pedalboard and stays on most all of the time for a mild mid scoop, so it doesn't see much abuse. For the money it's tough to beat these little Dano Mini effects. Not "boutique" quality, but good enough for rock n' roll.

I bought this EQ pedal after reading many good reviews, and it is my first EQ pedal. I'm glad I did: It really cleans up the sound, and in my case, if you're using a thick/fuzzy distortion (a la Silversun Pickups, My Bloody Valentine) and gives a nice boost for guitar solos. I wouldn't say the difference is gigantic, but it's definitely there.

"Tastier than Fish N Chips" 2010-02-19
By Doc Taz (NYC area, USA)
Seriously, this is a great pedal. I can't improve upon what others have said, but I will mention a few points.

1. I use this after the preamp or dirt boxes for a lead tone, or to add more crunch to my Fender Frontman 212 when inserted in the effects loop. It's run before time based effects (delay, phaser, etc) for me.

2. I sometimes use it before the distortion as a clean booster, while focusing one of the sliders to boost a few frequencies.

3. If it gets noisy or "self oscillates" after a while, change the battery to a fresh one. Better yet, use an AC adapter.

I found out about the last issue after reading a few Harmony Central reviews. Otherwise, it's been on my setup for about seven years. I take care of my stuff.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. This thing is noisy and it self oscillates at extreme settings. I would try and fix it but the contruction kind of prevents that possibility.

Its not worth taking to a tech for a $30 pedal. Good for industrial sounds I guess.

"Great pedal for the money" 2009-04-26
By Matthew E. Vavro (Butler, PA)
You'd be surprised at how much better you can make your tone with an EQ pedal. This Danelectro pedal is a great addition to any guitarists setup. The only thing is, it's not the sturdiest pedal, and the button to switch it on and off is a joke. Also, it adds quite a bit of fuzz, but this isn't a problem if you have a noise suppressor. All in all, you're getting a ton of customization from this pedal for a really small price.

"A Guitar Players Classic Old Friend" 2009-02-27
By Guitar Man
I have owned two of these little Pignose amps in my lifetime. The first one I bought as a practice amp as a teenager years and years ago. It lasted a good long time, and suffered plenty of use and abuse over the years. When it finally died a noble death, I ran out and immediately bought another.

The little Pignose is the most portable (and runs off of plain old batteries, no less) and fun little practice amp I've owned. Over the years I have played plenty of electric and acoustic guitars through my little Pignose amps, and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes, the sound of the little Pignose is very simple...but it's also very unique. I've often found a sound on the Pignose while practicing that I couldn't reproduce on any of my bigger tube amps (that muddy bluesy sound the Pignose has at near peak volume), so I've even used my Pignose as a pre-amp for larger speaker cabinets to get that "Pignose sound". I've even had friends open and close the Pignose while I'm playing, to be a manual wah-wah pedal. Good times.

This is one classic little amp that every guitar player should own...especially for those times where you need a little volume, but have very little space to pack an amp (camping, travleing, etc.)

Thumbs up for Pignose for keeping this classic amp alive...I may need to buy another some day, and I'm glad to see them still around and kicking.

"Absolutely worth the money for a harp player" 2009-01-19
By A. D. Boorman
This is a neat little amp. It's small, but solidly built. It's definitely NOT a toy. I got this amp with the idea that I could use it as a 'man-portable' sound system for my harmonicas. That way, I wouldn't be tied to a wall socket. I use it with a Shure Green Bullet microphone as an amp for my harmonicas. The sound is really nice. I was looking for sort of a "Chicago Blues Harp" kind of sound, and this really delivers. For me, the sound is very good, but I'm not sure how much a guitar/bass player or a vocalist might like it. There's some distortion, but I knew that before I bought it.

It's VERY simple to run. There's only one control (an on/off/volume knob on the front, just below the speaker.) On the back, there's a spot for the ac adapter (YOU NEED TO BUY ONE) and a jack for a headset plug.

You need to buy the AC adapter. I got the Pignose PA7 Power Supply. They come 'bundled together' on Amazon. This amp runs on 6 AA batteries, and it tends to use them pretty quickly. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT I BOUGHT THE AC ADAPTER.

It has a handle on the top, and the handle is well-attached to the body. The amp has knobs on the sides for a guitar strap. GET A GUITAR STRAP specifically for this unit. It seems like there's no other practical way to carry it around when you're using it.

The body opens up like a briefcase to put the batteries in. There is no storage space inside it so don't think about storing the AC adapter or anything like that inside it. It may have a 'big' sound, but this is a small amp.

I use a small electricians' tool case to carry my gear (Harps, mic, etc) in, and the Pignose fits in there quite easily.

All in all, this is a really nice little unit - well worth the money.

"Excellent for what it is" 2008-11-24
By Zedster (Tucson, AZ United States)
First of all, let's get this straight: this is a classic, portable practice amp. For its purpose, it does its job very well. You won't get a full bodied tone out of it due to the physical limitations of its speaker size (5"). It also is sort of a one trick pony. Even though it is solid state, it distorts beautifully and gradually as the volume is increased. It's not a Neu Metal distortion at all but rather a Classic Rock type of distortion. It also works well as a preamp in front of a larger more powerful amplifier (I have several, and it works well with them all). In my opinion, it sounds better with single coil pickups versus humbuckers; the clarity is a little better with the former. I have found that you can get clean sounds out of it, but you have to use your guitar to do so. By turning down your guitar's volume pot, the sound cleans up. With my Stratocaster, I get the cleanest sounds with the guitar's volume pot around 7 or so and the Pignose's volume at about 3:00, which provides decent volume too. This amp also can be very loud despite its 5 watts and small speaker. Fully cranked this amp is surprisingly loud with awesome distortion, which sounds even better recorded. Speaking of recording, by using a Shure SM57 microphone it sounds huge. So it's a great recording amp for distorted tones. It really shines as a recording amp. This amp also takes to pedals very well. I have several classic pedals that sound great through it. Modelling effects also work well with it and can considerably shape its tone. By using a Korg Pandora PX4D in front, I can actually get clean tones out of it at high volumes, which is impossible plugging in direct (plugging in direct has its own charms though). It even works well to amplify vocals. I have even used it to amplify my bass guitar too, but not with very good results. I have to turn the bass' volume pots very low, and I can't turn the amp's volume up much past 4:00 or 5:00 and expect to keep the sound clean. Needless to say, there isn't much bottom to the tone when amplifying a bass either. But keep in mind this is designed to be a guitar amp, not a bass amp. All things considered, if you're looking for a small, go anywhere amp that has Classic Rock to Blues tones, this amp is your ticket. Just don't expect to get either huge or clean tones (unless you use modeling effects in front of it) out of it. It wouldn't be my choice as a primary amp, but it is an excellent and portable tool to add color to your tone.

"here's an honest rating of this amp" 2007-12-30
By RSV (Wi)
I want to be honest so others aren't dissapointed when they order and receive this amp.

Its reallly overpriced for what it is.A tiny solid state amp which runs off of either ac power ,if you pay extra for an adapter,or off 6 double aa batteries which will last app 5-6 hours.

If you want this amp for a novelty type amp for its history and vintage looks and are not too concerned with quality or sound ,you may be satisfied. However,if you expect this amp to sound good and be used in any serious recordings etc,you most definately will be dissapointed. It has only a volume control which turns the amp on and off and adjust volume up or down. You get kind of a clean sound ,or kind of a muddy sound,or at full volume a useless sound which sounds similiar to a blown speaker. For the price this amp is,if you want a nice quality playing amp which runs off ac or dc,look into the roland micro cube.I have the micro cube also, and it totally blows he pignose away. Not evben in the same ball park. Also, when I received my pignose,it has very obvious splits in the fake pigskin covering on the bottom and the top of the amp which just shout out cheap construction.I emailed their customer service who said they all are like that due to no other way of seaming the material.Ok,that will be their little secret.

If you have money to burn and want the amp for its nostalgic look,go for it,but,if you want an amp that is portable and actually useful and sounds good, their are many others available out there for just slightly more money, such as the roland micro cube, vox, and others. This amp should be sold for app half the price it is ,in my opinion.

We bought this for our son. We were MORE than impressed with the guitar and amp. Three days after purchase we saw an identical guitar (without amp) for twice the price we paid. Thanks!!!

 "Metalic Blue Guitar" 2010-04-01

This guitar comes with everything it says it comes with (2 amp cords, a strap, a gig case, an amp, three picks, and of course a guitar). The amp is a great one for someone just starting to play guitar. The amp is about 10 inches tall. You will need to tune it when it comes in to your house. It is my very first Guitar and I am very happy with the choice I made. If you live in North Carolina it comes in about 4-5 days. It can come in many different colors. Austin Bazaar is the company that makes this guitar and amp.

 "great company" 2010-03-31
By L. Champion (New York, New York)
i ordered this thinking i was ordering a bass. don't know why or how i made this mistake but austin bazaar was really cool about it. i sent it back and they immediately sent me the bass i was trying to purchase. although i did inquire with them about a purple bass and they said they would send it in purple, they ended up sending it in blue which is fair considering that's the original color that i purchased the guitar in. all in all i am happy with my purchase. now i just need to learn how to play. will definitely use this company again.

"Hard to beat for the price, but remember, this is a cheap set!" 2010-03-09
By Michael A. Duvernois (Minneapolis, MN United States)
You get an inexpensive guitar, usable amp, and some little do-dads. But the price is incredibly good. You can buy this as a first electric guitar for a child and not feel badly about it. If they enjoy it and stick with it, buy something better next year. If they give up on it, put this out in your next garage sale and ask $40 for the set. It's a low investment strategy.

Now, advice for the purchase, check it out right away, and if it's genuinely broken (as opposed to being cheap and not especially sturdy) contact the seller right away. Give it a try. Beginners often break strings by overtightening during tuning. Have a friend show you how to tune. Enjoy your simple, but good for the low price, guitar setup.
