"a few quirks, but good sound" 2009-12-17
By holyhumor (San Francisco)
The sound quality for the card is really very good. Especially noted is the clarity at low volumes, which for me really says a lot. Not that I listen at particularly low volumes but I usually find that the best sound gear has that trait. A couple of quirks; the previously mentioned installing software before the card and the other being that the sound will be turned down all the way when computer is booted up, most of the time, but somtimes it is at the same level as when last used. I have not found a workaround for that as yet and not really a big deal for me but my wife is confounded upon occassion. A huge improvement over the Mac G4's original sound card and I like having a lot of in and out options.

"Straight forward, rock solid, and just what I needed..." 2009-08-24

I got a new computer and hoped the soundcard that came with the computer would be good enough to continue my audio and music projects without any problems. Sadly, it wasn't the case and I ordered the Audiophile 192. The Audiophile 192 has been a good soundcard so far and installed and integrated nicely into my new computer, which is running Vista, although I did go to M-Audio's website to download the newest drivers rather than what was on the included CD and would definitely recommend doing this with any new hardware you get.

"Great, crisp, 2 channel sound card, confusing drivers" 2009-06-09
By L. Tao (Delaware, USA)
The Audiophile 192 has everything I wanted in a sound card - MIDI support for my keyboard(s) and awesome, crisp 2 channel stereo sound reproduction. I'm hearing voices clearer and with more fidelity than before, and the use of 1/4" jacks allows easy hookup to my M-Audio BX5a monitors.

What I found disappointing is its bundled software which I don't find very useful, and the confusing setup options in the driver. It's also a minor niggle that they don't provide the full manual for the card in the box - they only give you a quick reference card. You can download the full manual online as a pdf.

Many help files online refer to a mixer / routing table tab in the driver program that doesn't exist in the latest driver (as of June 2009). Therefore getting everything to work in Windows XP was a little bit of a trial-and-error process for me. There was a point where I was so confused with drivers (and window's own sound device control panel) I considered returning the product, but I'm very grateful I didn't and took the time to learn it in greater detail.

 "Great Price, Great Sound" 2009-05-13
By S. Leeson (Chicago, USA)
After reviewing a dozen sound cards, I bought this one for my broadcast/audio production studio. It works fine, no crashes, no lag time, and it's used on-the-air with no-hums, no hassle. The trick (I'm using Windows XP) is to first go to the M-Audio web site. Download the latest drivers and install it on your computer before installing the card. Throw away the disc as it contains some outdated drivers that were causing some trouble. I had some concern with compatibility with my CPU processor and recording software. I e-mailed M-Audio before I purchased it, and they were quick (one business day) to respond. It's been my workhorse for 6 months now and a solid product at that.

 "Great card" 2008-07-20
By S. Signer (San Francisco, CA United States)
I'm not even close to utilizing the full features of this audio card. However, for my purposes it's a major step up from the Creative card I'd been using. Primarily I'm listening to digital music located on my computer, ripping my CD collection, and occasionally digitizing vinyl. The results have been great.
